Panthers Topped by Wisconsin-Whitewater in First Round

The women's volleyball team traveled to UW-Whitewater to play the No. 11 Warhawks on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA tournament.  Greenville fell in a 25-21, 25-15, 25-17 decision.

Greenville opened the match on a 7-1 run that forced Whitewater to utilize an early timeout.  Greenville pushed the lead to 9-1 with a kill from Allyson Mitchell before Whitewater began their surge.  The Warhawks posted three streaks of three straight points and closed the set with five straight points in recovering to gain a 25-21 first set win.

The second set was controlled by Whitewater as they held Greenville to a negative .057 hitting percentage.  Greenville could only muster five kills against seven errors in 35 attempts.

The third set saw Grenville hold an early 9-7 lead and held a 13-12 advantage at the mid-point.  Whitewater stormed back to take the 25-17 final set win and match victory.

Greenville's Savannah Sells, Sierah Ruffner, and Cheyenne Vaca each had five kills in the match.  Kirsten Laune produced 19 assists.

Mitchell was active defensively with 14 digs, and Janisha Pealer had 11 digs.

The Lady Panthers completed their season with a record of 25-8, taking the SLIAC tournament championship for the second straight season and winning the SLIAC regular season championship for a conference record seventh consecutive year.
