Eureka Women's Basketball to Tip Off NCAA 2015-16 Season

The Eureka College women's basketball team will tip off the 2015-16 college basketball season at midnight on Nov. 13 (Thursday night into Friday morning) according to Eureka College Athletic Director and Head Women's Basketball Coach Steve Thompson. The midnight contest will be the first NCAA basketball game, in all divisions, played of the 2015-16 season.

"I am really excited for this opportunity," Thompson said. "The combination of opening day and midnight madness is truly unique. It will be something these ladies will never forget."

The event will include several promotions celebrating the start of the college basketball season (#SeasonStartsHere), unique giveaways for students and spectators, and a special late night menu for those enjoying the game.

"I know the campus community will get behind it," Thompson said. "It will be a great kickoff event for the season. This is truly a one-of-a-kind event."

The contest will also be the first basketball game played on the newly renovated and renamed Dave Darnall Court in the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center at the Reagan Athletic Complex. Renovations include a state-of-the-art Robbins MVP Floor, all chair-back seating, and a new floor plan.

"Spectators will feel a lot closer to the action, and Eureka College students will have a new section to call home with the different arena layout," Thompson said.

The Red Devils are 17-15 in season openers since Eureka's game-by-game records began and 1-0 under Coach Thompson after a thrilling 94-92 comeback victory at Knox College to begin last season.

Eureka welcomes back two starters from last season's 14-13 team, highlighted by senior sharp-shooter Emily Camden (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) who was a second team All-SLIAC selection last season after averaging 15.8 points per game and setting the single-season school record for 3-pointers made with 78.
