Spalding Men's Soccer Participates In Community Soccer Clinic

The Spalding University Men's Soccer traveled to the Walden School this past week for a community soccer clinic. The Walden School's athletic department is headed by former Spalding Soccer player and SU alum David Gross, who invited the SUMS staff and players out for an afternoon with their players.

The Walden School is an independent school for K-12 students in Louisville. The mission of the school is to provide an educational environment that fosters lifelong enthusiasm for learning and challenges individuals to reach their full potential. AD David Gross, who played at Spalding from 2006-2010 and captained the team, is in the midst of his first year directing the athletic department at Walden.

SU Men's Soccer spent the afternoon with the players, splitting into four stations. The student-athletes from The Walden School were split into four groups, based on age, and rotated through each station.

The players enjoyed a shooting station, small-sided game station, and two stations with 7v7 free play. There were over 40 players representing The Walden School, ranging in ages from 12-17.

"Our players and staff had a great time at today's community soccer clinic and we're very thankful for the opportunity to get involved with these young players and spend some time together sharing the game of soccer," Head Coach Adam Boyer commented.

"David is a great example of successful Spalding Soccer alums making a difference in the Louisville community. He's a true Golden Eagle and we are really excited to see the direction he continues taking Walden Athletics, and in particular, their soccer programs. After spending the afternoon with them, we can tell he has a great group of young men and women on his teams," Coach Boyer finished.

SU men's soccer is in the third week of the regular season, preparing for two games this weekend against Mount St. Joseph and Franklin College. For more information on Spalding Soccer, you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
