Jaime Suarez started his collegiate career with Iowa Wesleyan University with a first-place finish in the Iowa City Shootout this weekend. Suarez, a freshman from Gran Canaria, Spain, led the field with a final score of 144.
Suarez shot a first round 75, two shots behind teammate Blake Forsythe. However, Suarez put together an impressive second round, shooting a 69; the only round under 70 for the tournament. Suarez won the tournament by six strokes over Forsythe, who finished with a 150.
Fellow Tiger Jeff Cox shot a 159 to tie for fifth-place while Fergus Smith (165) finished tied for 13th and Nolan Leaton (166) placed 17th overall. The Tigers took first place in the team race as well with a score of 615, besting Wartburg College by 29 strokes.
