Hughes and Uhrich Named All-American, 10 Pick Up All-Region

Deion Hughes, from Westminster College, and Kyle Uhrich, from Webster University, were named 2016 All-Americans while a total of 10 players from across the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) received All-Region honors.

In addition to earning All-American honors from, Hughes and Uhrich were named All-Central Region First Team. Joining them as members on the 2016 All-Central Region are: Jack Bensinger, from Webster University; Tanner Branneky, from Westminster; Tyler Branneky, from Westminster College; Collin Brinker, from Westminster College; Jason Collingwood, from Greenville College; Ben Greenway, from Fontbonne University; Matt Mokriakow, from Blackburn College; and Travis Ralls, from Greenville College.

Jack Bensinger was named Second Team All-Central region after leading the Gorloks in all major pitching categories. Bensinger, a graduate student from Los Angeles, Calif., had a SLIAC best 1.56 earned-run average; the lowest single season mark in Webster history. Bensinger totaled nine wins with five complete games while throwing a staff best 86.1 innings this year and striking out 62.



Hughes, an outfielder and pitcher for the Blue Jays, was named Honorable Mention All-American as a utility player; becoming the first player in program history to earn All-American honors. The senior from Jefferson City, Mo., hit .392 with two home runs and 31 runs batted in and finished with a 12-2 record as a pitcher with a 2.42 earned-run average. He currently leads the nation with 12 wins on the mound and is second in the nation in complete games. He broke three season records during the 2016 campaign, and holds five career records at Westminster.


Tanner Branneky, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., was named Second Team All-Central region after hitting .343 this year. He tied for the team lead with 10 home runs and finished second with 43 runs batted in. Branneky led the SLIAC in slugging percentage (.664) and finished in the top five in runs, doubles, home runs, and runs batted in.



Tyler Branneky, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., picked up Third Team All-Central region honors as a third baseman. Branneky hit .301 with 10 home runs and 48 runs batted in, leading the conference in RBI. He finished fourth in the conference in on-base percentage (.463), drawing a league high 33 walks, and was seventh in slugging percentage (.601).



Brinker, a senior from Auxvasse, Mo., was named All-Central Region Second Team as a pitcher after compiling a 9-3 record. Brinker made a conference high 14 starts this year, throwing a conference high 100 innings. He finished with a 2.52 earned-run average, striking out 82. Brinker ranked in the top five in the conference in wins, strikeouts, and earned-run average and was named the 2016 SLIAC Pitcher of the Year while also picking up First Team All-Conference honors.


Collingwood, a senior from Decatur, Ill., was named Second Team All-Central region as a pitcher. Collingwood was a frequent contributor for the Panthers out of the bullpen, making a SLIAC high 24 appearances this year. He finished with a 5-1 record and seven saves this year while recording a 2.09 earned-run average. Collingwood was named Third Team All-Conference earlier this season.


Greenway, a junior from Jacksonville, Fla., was named Third Team All-Region as a designated hitter. He is the first Griffin to earn All-Region honors from Greenway hit .358 on the season with 53 hits, 37 runs batted in, 14 doubles and four home runs. He also earned Second Team All-Conference honors earlier this month.



Mokriakow, an outfielder, was named Third Team All-Central region this year. A senior from Glen Carbon, Ill., Mokriakow hit .403 with three home runs and 33 runs batted. He finished with a team high 62 hits, including 13 doubles, and struck out just 12 times this season. He finished his career as a Beaver as the program's all-time leader in runs batted in. He was fourth in the SLIAC in batting average and was named First Team All-Conference.



Travis Ralls, a sophomore from Florrisant, Mo., was named Third Team All-Central region as a catcher. Ralls hit .353 this season with three home runs and 35 runs batted in. He added a .407 on-base percentage and finished with 55 hits including 13 doubles. Ralls finished with a .971 fielding percentage, throwing out 11 base runners and committing just five errors on the season.



Uhrich was named Third Team All-American as a designated hitter. Uhrich, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., hit .329 with 11 home runs and 47 runs batted in during the 2016 season. He led the Gorloks in home runs, runs batted in, doubles, and total bases. He was named SLIAC First Team All-Conference this year and is Webster's career leader in home runs with 28. This is the second consecutive year earning All-American honors from for Uhrich, after being named honorable mention last year.
