SLIAC Players of the Week - September 17

The list of Player of the Week winners for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this week includes Anna Finch, Abby Freeman, Kornell Hilliard, Cameron Killian, Molly Kovarik, Jessie Kuykendall, Kayla Strehle, and Colton Vaughn.

   

SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week - Sept. 17
Colton Vaughn, Webster University

Racing in his second collegiate meet Vaughn, a freshman at Webster University, was the Gorloks top finisher at the Southern Stampede last weekend. He completed the 8K course in a time of 27:43, placing 25th in a field of 227 runners. He was the highest finisher among DIII racers in the field. 

       
     

SLIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week - Sept. 17
Jessie Kuykendall, Westminster College

Jessie Kuykendall picks up her second straight SLIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award. Kuykendall notched her second consecutive top ten finish, placing 7th at the Missouri Southern Stampede. She finished the 5K race in a time of 18:58, competing in a field of 205 runners.

       
   

SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week - Sept. 17
Kornell Hilliard, Spalding University

Hilliard, a junior from Louisville, Ky., led the Golden Eagles scoring last week as they picked up two wins. Hilliard tallied a pair of goals in a 6-0 win over Berea. Hilliard followed with a hat-trick in his team's 4-1 victory over Earlham. He finished with five goals on nine shots and currently leads the conference in goals and total points.

       
   

SLIAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week - Sept. 17
Cameron Killian, Webster University

Killian, a sophomore defender from St. Louis, Mo., helped the Gorlok defense continue their impressive start to the season with three more shutouts. Killian and the Gorloks have recorded a shutout in all seven games this year and is one of just three teams to not allow a game in Division III this season. Killian played at least 79 minutes in all three games last week, allowing just 16 total shots on goal.

       
   

SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week - Sept. 17
Molly Kovarik, Fontbonne University

Kovarik, a sophomore from Festus, Mo., continued her hot start to the season with two more goals last week. Kovarik, who leads the conference with seven goals, netted both of her team's goals in a 2-0 win over Cornell College. She tallied the goals on just six shots as the Griffins secured their second win of the season.

       
   

SLIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week - Sept. 17
Kayla Strehle, Spalding University

Strehle, a freshman from Orlando, Fla., stood out last week against Anderson despite taking the loss. She stopped nine of ten shots as the Golden Eagles fell in overtime. She finished the week with a .900 save percentage and currently leads the conference in goals-against average and save percentage.

       
   

SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week - Sept. 17
Abby Freeman, Greenville University

Freeman grabs her second straight award after helping the Panthers to three wins last week. She finished with 69 kills in just four matches, averaging 5.3 kills per set while hitting .408 on her attempts. She had two matches with 19 kills and added 13 total blocks on the week. For the week she averaged 6.5 points per set and finished with just 16 errors on 130 swings.

       
   

SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week - Sept. 17
Anna Finch, Greenville University

Anna Finch claims SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors after an impressive week at the net. Finch, a sophomore middle blocker, totaled 17 blocks on the week including four solos. She averaged 1.31 blocks per set in four matches and currently leads the conference in that category. Her high came in a sweep of Spalding with nine blocks.

Other Notables

  • Mary Beers, Fontbonne University (Soccer) Beers made five saves in a shutout win over Cornell.
  • Drew Blair, Fontbonne University (Soccer) Making his first collegiate start Blair made five saves in a 3-2 overtime win over Illinois College.
  • Kristen Farrah, Webster University (Volleyball) Finished with 142 digs over four matches, averaging 8.9 per set including 46 against Loras.
  • Mia Gill, Principia College (Volleyball) Recorded 93 digs in three matches last week including a high of 42 against MacMurray.
  • Nick Holland, Greenville University (Soccer) Recorded five saves in a double-overtime win against Elmhurst.
  • Abdikadir Hussein, Spalding University (Soccer) Played all 180 minutes on the week, anchoring the Golden Eagle defense that allowing just three combined shots on goal.
  • Kalleigh Linthicum, Webster University (Cross Country) Personal best time of 19:51 at the Southern Stampede, top Gorlok finisher at the race. 
  • Jared McPeek, Greenville University (Soccer) Netted both goals of a 2-1 win over Elmhurst, scoring the game-tying goals with under four minutes left in regulation and netting the game-winner with just one second on the clock in double overtime. 
  • Aamahn Murvin, Webster University (Soccer) Recorded eight points in three wins for the Gorloks last week including a two-goal effort against Rhodes.
  • Natalie Needy, Westminster College (Volleyball) Totaled 54 kills on the week including a 19 kill outing against Knox. 
  • Carolyn Ries, Webster University (Soccer) Ries recorded two goals, including the game-winner, against Cornell.
  • Eli Thomas, Spalding University (Cross Country) Finished 12th with a time of 29:29 at the OWU Invite. 
  • Hayden Warner, Principia College (Volleyball) Had a career-high 21 kills in a win over Blackburn, hitting .553 in the match and adding 29 digs.
