Over Thanksgiving week the Fontbonne University SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Council) group joined with Operation Food Search to help local families in need of food. Fontbonne collected 305 pounds of food, which was valued at $515.45 by Operation Food Search. That total was enough to feed 76 people for one day.
According to Operation Food Search nearly 1 in 4 children in the St. Louis service area are food insecure. This can be caused by factors such as unemployment or underemployment, a major illness to a family member, or a divorce. Families living with food insecurity may face additional anxiety and stress. Lack of available, nutritious food can affect how a child develops, both physically and emotionally.
