SLIAC Game of the Week: Iowa Wesleyan at Webster (September 26, 2017)
This week's SLIAC Game of the Week is between Iowa Wesleyan University and Webster University in the opening weekend for soccer conference match-ups. Both teams start the week with a 4-3-1 overall record and this week's game will be their first conference contest of the 2017 season. Iowa Wesleyan and Webster will meet for the fifth time in series history.....MORE

Blackburn College

Blackburn sophomore midfielder Jordan Allen picked up SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors this week after helping the Beavers to a 4-2 come from behind win over Lincoln Christian. After Blackburn fell behind 2-0 to start the game Allen, from Danville, Ill., netted the Beavers first two goals of the game and then set up the game-winning goal midway through the second half. Blackburn has now won two straight games. 

Eureka College

Eureka's Anna Crank earned SLIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling 29 kills in two matches last week. She recorded 12 kills in a win over Iowa Wesleyan and followed with 17 kills, adding 12 digs and six total blocks against Lincoln Christian. Crank is the first Red Devil to win the award since Heather Myers on September 21, 2009. Crank currently ranks 3rd in the SLIAC at 3.76 kills per set. 


Fontbonne University

The Fontbonne women's soccer team exploded for six second-half goals in a 7-1 win over Oakland City on Tuesday night, their second win this season. The Griffins outshot the Mighty Oaks 28-9 in the game and had six players tally a goal including two from Meredith Wendt. Fontbonne has one more out of conference game this season, against Harris-Stowe on Thursday, before opening up conference action against Eureka on Saturday.

Greenville University

The Greenville women's soccer team scored a season-high 12 goals, marking the most by a SLIAC team this year, in a 12-1 win over Lincoln Christian. The Panthers netted four goals in the first-half and eight more in the second-half, outshooting their opponent 51-2. Nine different players had goals for Greenville with Jade Taylor leading the way with four goals. 

Iowa Wesleyan University

Kiley Miller, a senior from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, captured a first-place finish at the Loras Fall Invite this week. Miller finished with a two-round score of 141, one below par. Miller made his move in the second-round, shooting a tournament-best 69. Miller was the only player in the field of 43 to finish with a round below par and bested the second-place finisher by four strokes.

MacMurray College

The MacMurray volleyball team continued their hot stretch by winning two more games on Monday, defeating Knox and Robert Morris-Springfield. The Highlanders have now won five of their last eight games. After three matches out of conference, MacMurray returns to SLIAC play this weekend with matches against Blackburn and Webster on Saturday in Carlinville, Illinois.

Principia College

For the third time, this season Principia College senior Shane Witters Hicks picked up the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Player of the Week award. Witters Hicks, from Golden, Colo., finished in 2nd place at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational. He completed the course in a time of 20:24, just five seconds behind the leader. 

Spalding University

The Spalding women's golf team took 9th place at the HCAC Preview this past weekend. The Golden Eagles finished with a team score of 718, with two players finishing in the Top 40 of individuals. Kassidy Wallin finished 33rd with a two-round score of 174 while Taylor Thompson finished 37th with a 176. The Golden Eagles return to the course October 7th at the Wittenberg Invitational. 

Webster University

It's a perfect ten for the Webster volleyball team. The Gorloks won their 10th straight match after a 3-1 win over Eureka. The winning streak is the programs longest since 2007 and gives them a 9-0 record in SLIAC play. The program record for longest winning streak is 13, set in 1997. Next up for the Gorloks is Greenville on Thursday night in Grant Gym at 7 p.m.

Westminster College

After more than a week away from the court the Westminster volleyball team is back in action with matches against Blackburn, Eureka, and Iowa Wesleyan this week. Westminster will be itching to get back after falling a five-set thriller to Principia in their last outing, on September 19th. Westminster is currently 5-8 overall and 4-1 in the SLIAC.
