SLIAC Players of the Week - April 9

This week's list of award winners includes Nick Bohlmann, Hallie Jones, Shannon McCaul, Matt Mulhearn, Mackenzie Myers, Ben Perry, Nathan Potts, Zach Plocher, Marideth Tate, and Diamond Thomas.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Nick Bohlmann, Westminster College

Bohlmann, a senior outfielder, helped set the table for an explosive Blue Jays offense last week. Westminster scored eight or more runs in four of their five games while going undefeated in conference play. Bohlman, the leadoff hitter, reached base in every game and totaled 11 hits while also drawing four walks. He held an on-base percentage of .682 on the week and swiped three bases. Bohlmann crossed the plate 10 times and drove in six. He finished the week with a .647 batting average, with multiple hits in four games including a four-hit day in game two of a doubleheader against Blackburn.

   

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Matt Mulhearn, Webster University

Mulhearn picked up a pair of wins last week for Webster, improving his record to 5-2 on the season. He started the week with a win over WashU, working 6 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out seven. Mulhearn then took over on the mound for a suspended game, throwing 2 innings against Eureka and picking up the win while striking out three and allowing just one hit. On the week Mulhearn allowed just one run in 8 1/3 innings while striking out 10 and walking just two with only two hits allowed.

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Mackenzie Myers, Westminster College

Myers and the Blue Jays bats came alive in a big way last week, compiling a 4-0 conference record. Myers hit .889 in the four games while driving in nine runs and scoring eight runs. She recorded 7 hits in a doubleheader sweep of MacMurray. In game one she was 4-for-4 with five RBI. She finished the week with a 1.333 slugging percentage and 8-of-9 at the plate.

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Diamond Thomas, Fontbonne University

Thomas, a junior from Waynesville, Mo., picked up two conference wins for the Griffins last week. She worked the first three innings of a five-inning contest against Principia, allowing just one hit and no runs for the win. Thomas then came on in relief to throw four scoreless innings in a come from behind win over Blackburn. In that game, Thomas allowed just one hit while striking out two. For the week she worked 7 innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out two and recording a 0.00 earned-run average.

 

SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Ben Perry, Greenville University

Perry, a senior from Edwardsville, Ill., helped the Panthers to a team win in the Millikin Big Blue Invitational with a pair of top-two finishes. Perry took first place in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 160'0", setting a new personal best. He also took second-place in the discus with a distance of 126'10", the second-best throw this season in the SLIAC.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Nathan Potts, Greenville University

Potts picks up his second straight weekly honor after capturing another event title at the Millikin Invitational. Potts took first in the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:06.95. Potts also notched a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay, finishing with a time of 3:30.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Marideth Tate, Greenville University

Tate, a senior from Mascoutah, Ill., took first place in the Hammer Throw at the Millikin Invitational. She finished with a distance of 137'2", the best distance among conference competitors this season by seven feet.

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Shannon McCaul, Westminster College

McCaul, a senior, took first place in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase at the Central Methodist Invite. McCaul completed the race with a time of 11:34.15, the best time among SLIAC runners this year. It marked her second straight meet win in the event. 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Zach Plocher, Greenville University

Plocher, a junior from Highland, Ill., picked up two overall wins last week for the Panthers. He won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles over Westminster. Plocher then continued the shutout streak against his opponents with an 8-0 victory at #2 doubles.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Hallie Jones, Principia College

Jones, a junior from Elsah, Ill., captured a perfect week on the courts while playing in four matches. Jones was 2-0 in both singles and doubles action. Playing at #2 singles she topped Fontbonne 7-6, 6-4 for a conference win. Jones trailed 3-1 in her second set before winning five of the next six games to close out the win. She followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Blackburn at the top singles position. Jones also teamed with Olivia Kasprzyk for a pair of doubles win.

  • Nick Balkenbush, MacMurray College (Baseball) Finished with 13 hits over five games, driving in six.
  • Monica Behrle, Webster University (Tennis) Blanked her SLIAC opponents on the week by going 20-0 in set scores.
  • Michael Golich, Fontbonne University (Baseball) Golich drove in the game-winning run in the first game of a doubleheader against Principia and followed with three more hits in game two.
  • Kelsey Hamilton, Spalding University (Track and Field) Set a school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.25 seconds.
  • Meghan Illig, Webster University (Track and Field) Took 3rd place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.53, the fastest time by a SLIAC runner this year.
  • Madison Ingram, Westminster College (Softball) Struck out nine in just five innings in a win over MacMurray.
  • Courtney Kedroski, Fontbonne University (Softball) Had three multi-hit games including four hits in a win over Principia in which she drove in two and stole a base.
  • Morgan Mansur, Webster University (Softball) Part of a combined no-hitter against MacMurray, working four innings while striking out five.
  • Austin Marsh, Greenville University (Baseball) Had three hits in each of the first two games of a series against Spalding. 
  • Sierra Moore, Fontbonne University (Track and Field) Set two personal bests last weekend while competing in the Discus and Hammer Throw. 
  • Eric Meyer, Spalding University (Baseball) Tallied seven hits with four RBI in a doubleheader against Greenville.
  • Grant Mullin, Eureka College (Baseball) Drove in the game-winning run in the Red Devils win over #25 Webster, a solo home run in the 8th inning. 
  • Riley Muren, Webster University (Tennis) Recorded four overall wins last week including two at #1 singles for Webster.
  • Joe Quinn, Eureka College (Baseball) Recorded the win over #25 Webster by going 9 innings and allowing just one run on four hits.
  • Mariana Rogers, Fontbonne University (Tennis) Was 2-0 on the week including a victory at #1 singles over Principia.
  • Kaylin Rucker, Spalding University (Softball) Had two game-winning hits on the week; a three-run home run in their win over Greenville and a walk-off single against Eureka.
  • Dillon Sievert, Spalding University (Baseball) Played a key role in the Golden Eagles came from behind win over Greenville. Trailing 11-3 with two runners on and one out, Sievert took the mound and escaped the jam; going on to throw 2 2/3 innings and allowing no earned runs. Later in the game, he hit the game-tying three-run home run and would go on to pick up the win on the mound.
  • Taylor White, Webster University (Softball) Went 5-for-6 with six runs scored and five stolen bases in a sweep of MacMurray.
  • Gabby Wood, Eureka College (Softball) Had two hits in both games of a doubleheader against Spalding.
