SLIAC Game of the Week: Blackburn at MacMurray

This week's SLIAC Game of the Week is between Blackburn College and MacMurray College, one of the longest running series in the SLIAC. The two teams have played a total of 56 games since joining the SLIAC with Blackburn snapping a 14 game MacMurray winning streak earlier this season. Blackburn College "BEAVERS"

Blackburn College enters the game with a 10-9 record and a 7-5 mark in SLIAC pay. The Beavers have won two straight games and are coming off a 94-81 win over Fontbonne last weekend. They are averaging 84.4 points per game this season, fourth most in the SLIAC.

Senior guard Chris Davis leads the Beavers at 14.3 points per game this season and is 10th in the league with 34 three-pointers. When the Beavers go inside they have their choice of senior forwards; Andre Manuel or Willie Orange. Manuel is averaging 13.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while Orange is averaging 13.2 points per game and shooting 54-percent from the field. Senior guard Jake Maestranzi is averaging 12.5 points per game and is second in the SLIAC with 88 assists.

 

MacMurray College "HIGHLANDERS"

MacMurray College is currently 3-15 overall and 3-9 in conference play. The Highlanders did not pick up their first win of the season until January 7th but since that time are 3-4. The Highlanders are coming off a 162-125 loss to Greenville on Saturday and are averaging 76.1 points per game this season, 7th in the SLIAC.

Their offense revolves around junior forward Brent Long. Long is averaging 19.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while shooting 54-percent from the field. He has nine 20 point games this season with 10 double-doubles including in each of his last two games. Point guard Tim Frazier is averaging 12.4 points and 3.9 assists per game while Marshall Corbin is their top outside threat; averaging 10.6 points per game with 18 made three-pointers.

 

Previous Meeting - BOX SCORE

Blackburn snapped a 14 game losing streak in the series with a 95-71 win over MacMurray on December 31, 2016. The Beavers pulled away in the second-half, out scoring the Highlanders 50-32 thanks in large part to knocking down six second-half three-pointers and shooting 55-percent from the field. Tommy Childs led Blackburn with 18 points and seven assists while Chris Davis finished with 16 points and Jake Maestranzi added 13 points and eight assists. MacMurray was led by Brent Long's 15 points with Tim Frazier adding 14 points and five assists.

Game Notes

  • MacMurray leads the all-time series against Blackburn 33-23 and had won 14 straight before Blackburn's 95-71 win in late December.
  • The Blackburn and MacMurray series is tied with the Blackburn and Fontbonne series for most games played.
  • MacMurray junior forward Brent Long joined the 1,000 point club for his career last weekend.
  • Blackburn is in search of their first SLIAC Tournament apperance since the 2005 tournament.
