167 Fall Student-Athletes Named SLIAC All-Academic (December 3, 2015)

A total of 167 student-athletes received All-Academic Team honors for the 2015 fall season as awarded by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. This marks the highest total of student-athletes receiving academic All-Conference honors in the fall season since the award was first handed out in 2001.....MORE

Five Women's Soccer Players Named NSCAA All-Region (December 3, 2015)

AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn head coach Steve Kollar picked up his first win as Beavers head coach last week with an 89-83 win over Fontbonne. The Beavers jumped out to a 45-37 lead at halftime before closing out the game for the road win. Chris Davis led the Beavers with 22 points while Jamie Moore added 14 points in just 18 minutes of action.
Red Devil men's basketball player Greg Kent was named the SLIAC Player of the Week this week after recording two double-doubles and nearly added a quadruple double. Kent recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds, adding nine assists and six steals in a win over Principia. Then he followed with 16 points, 11 rebounds, eight steals, and six assists.
Fontbonne led all conference members with 29 representatives on the 2015 SLIAC Fall All-Academic team. To be named All-Academic a student-athlete must hold a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or above, be at least a sophomore in academic standing, and have one full year at the institution. Josh Kuusisto was named the 2016 recipient of the Order of the Orange and Black from Greenville College. The biannual award recognizes a student-athlete who achieves athletic and academic excellence, models good leadership, and reflects the College's standards of Christian integrity. Kuusisto, a 2014 graduate, competed in track and field all four years for the Panthers and holds school records in the hammer throw.

Iowa Wesleyan senior guard Chris Fowler was named to the D3Hoops Team of the Week. Fowler led the Tigers to a pair of conference wins, averaging 23.5 points and 10 assists per game. In addition Fowler averaged 6.0 rebounds per game and shot 63-percent from the field. Fowler is currently third in the league in scoring at 19.5 points per game and first in assists with 57 total assists this season.

MacMurray will host a Coaches vs. Cancer event this weekend to help raise cancer awareness and support local basketball coach Bill Pool in his battle with cancer. MacMurray will host Principia on Saturday, December 12 with the women tipping off at 1 p.m. and men at 3 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door. In addition there will be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction.
Principia junior Women's Soccer player Rachel Perea was named to the 2015 NSCAA All-Region team last week. Perea earned Second Team All-Region honors after anchoring the Panther defense and adding three goals and one assist. Perea also earned Second Team All-Conference honors earlier this year. The Spalding women's basketball team is off to a strong start this season at 4-1 overall and 1-1 in SLIAC play. Their lone loss this season has been a 73-72 overtime loss to Westminster and they are coming off a 68-54 win over Eureka. Alex Martin leads the team at 13.2 points per game while Dee Dee Sliter is averaging 12.3 points and 4.8 assists per game.

The Webster men's basketball team has won two straight games, both conference contests, to improve to 3-3 overall this season. The Gorloks have now won three of their last four games and will head on the road for their next four games. The do not return home for a game until January 4th when they host Eureka College.
A trio of Westminster men's soccer players were named NSCAA All-Central Region Team. Midfielder Tripp Sheehan was named to the Second Team while goal keeper Raul Belman and Drew Cook earned Third Team honors. To view the complete list of 2015 NSCAA All-Central Region team members click HERE
