SLIAC Players of the Week - April 4

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week are: Paige Cooley, from Principia College; Kerrigan Dura, from Eureka College; Austin Earnest, from Fontbonne University; Connor Hager, Westminster College; Meghan Illig, from Webster University; Ryan Robbins, from Webster University; Joey Sander, from Principia College; Katie Suiters, from Spalding University; and Tyler Williams, from Fontbonne University.


SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
CONNOR HAGER - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Connor Hager, a junior from Jefferson City, Mo., is this week's SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week. Hager helped the Blue Jays to three wins including a conference double header sweep of Greenville College. Hager sparked his team's 21-0 win over the Panthers in game one, going 4-for-6 and hitting for the cycle. He followed with two more hits in game two. On the week Hager was 13-of-30 from the plate, for a .433 batting average with one home run and 12 runs batted in. Hager had two four hit games on the week, finishing with a .767 slugging percentage and adding two stolen bases and seven runs scored.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
AUSTIN EARNEST - FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY

Austin Earnest, a freshman pitcher from Ironton, Mo., is the SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for April 4. Earnest picked up a complete game 4-3 win over Principia College, striking out 13 in just seven innings of work. Earnest allowed just five hits, walking four. Leading by just one in the bottom of the seventh, Earnest struck out the final batter of the game; stranding Panthers at first and second. Earnest also made a relief appearance the day before, going 1/3 of an inning. Earnest improves his record to 3-1 on the season.



SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
KERRIGAN DURA - EUREKA COLLEGE

Kerrigan Dura, a freshman from Brimfield, Ill., had a week to remember; garnering SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week honors. Dura helped the Red Devils to a perfect 8-0 record on the week, hitting .750 with one home run and 25 runs batted in. Dura had six multi-hit games including four hits in both games of a sweep of Westminster College. In that double header against Westmisnter, Dura finished 8-for-9 with 14 RBI and five runs scored. On the week Dura was 21-of-28 at the plate, scoring 17 runs, and finishing with a .788 on-base percentage and a 1.357 slugging percentage. Dura has already set the program record for RBI in a season with 46.
 

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JOEY SANDER - PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Joey Sander, a senior from Camarillo, Calif. recorded four wins on the week for the Panthers in earning SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors. Sander picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Greenville and then added a 7-5, 6-0 win over Webster; playing the top singles spot in both matches. Sander also notched wins at #1 doubles, teaming with Brody Swan as the #1 team.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PAIGE COOLEY - PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Paige Cooley, a freshman from Traverse City, Mich., is the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after notching two wins. Cooley, playing at #1 singles, defeated Concordia-Wisconsin in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. She followed with an 8-5 win in the #1 doubles spot, teaming with Caitlin Carney.

 


 

SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
RYAN ROBBINS - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Ryan Robbins, a sophomore from Clarksville, Mo., picked up a pair of personal records over the weekend while competing in the Wash U Invitational. Robbins set the SLIAC top qualifying mark in the javelin with a distance of 134'9", finishing 17th at the meet. He also competed in the hammer throw, finishing with a mark of 103'10" to put him in the top ten on the conference list.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
TYLER WILLIAMS - FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY

Tyler Williams, a junior from Flossmoor, Ill., broke the Griffins record in the 100 meter dash while competing at the Wash U Invitational. Williams finished with a time of 11.23 seconds, taking off 0.14 seconds from his previous school record. He now ranks first in the SLIAC on the qualifying list in the 100 meter dash. 


SLIAC WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
KATIE SUITERS - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Katie Suiters, a sophomore from Indianapolis, Ind., put herself further atop the qualifying list in the shot put with a fifth place finish at the Hanover Invitational. Suiters recorded a distance of 36.025 feet. She also picked up a fifth place finish in the discus, throwing 116'1", just off her SLIAC leading throw last week. Suiters currently leads the SLIAC qualifying list in both the discus and shot put.


SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
MEGHAN ILLIG - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Meghan Illig, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., picks up SLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors after a top ten finish in the 400 meter hurdles at the Wash U Invitational. Illig placed 8th in the race, finishing with a time of 1:08.3, the second fastest time in Webster program history. She also competed in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 16.10. Both times currently lead the list of SLIAC qualifiers.

 

Other Notables:

  • Jack Bensinger, Webster University (Baseball) - Bensinger limited Iowa Wesleyan to just three hits while striking out seven in 6.1 innings of work.
  • Gabi Cruts, Fontbonne University (Track and Field) - Cruts had the top qualifying time this season in the 100 meter race, also picking up the second best time in the 200 meter, and just missing out on a school record in the 4x100 relay.
  • Colleen Coday, Webster University (Track and Field) - Coday set the school record in the high jump, with a height of 4'9".
  • Javier Guerra, Spalding University (Baseball) - Guerra notched a win over Eureka, going seven innings and allowing no earned runs while striking out nine.  
  • Deion Hughes, Westminster College (Baseball) - Hughes went picked up a complete game shutout win over Greenville, going seven innings and striking out eight.
  • Trevor Montgomery, Greenville College (Baseball) Montgomery went 3-for-5 with a home run and four runs batted in during his team's win over Principia.
  • Becca Mouser, Spalding University (Softball) - Mouser hit .455 in her team's four games last week, with three home runs and nine runs batted in.
  • Kelly Mundwiller, Fontbonne University (Track and Field) - Mundwiller debuted in the javelin and hammer throw last weekend, setting a school record in the hammer throw and ranking second in the SLIAC on the qualifying list in the javelin.
  • Blake Patterson, Spalding University (Baseball) - Patterson hit .455 last week, driving in 10 with two home runs while helping the Golden Eagles to a pair of conference double header sweeps.
  • Amber Tepen, Westminster College (Softball) - Tepen hit .478 last week with five multi-hit games, driving in eight.
  • Kyle Uhrich, Webster University (Baseball) - Uhrich reached base three times in game one of a double header against Iowa Wesleyan, going 1-for-2 with four RBI and drawing two walks.
  • Quinn Wilson, Fontbonne University (Track and Field) Wilson set school records in the triple jump (39'2.5") and high jump (5'7") while ranking in the top three of the conference qualifiers.
