SLIAC WINTER STANDINGS
AROUND THE SLIAC
Blackburn senior women's basketball player Briana Rae was named the
SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after recording a
double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds against Westminster.
In the game Rae also notched her 1,000 career point.
The Eureka men's basketball team will the short ride over to Peoria, Illinois this week to take on Division I foe Bradley University. Eureka is currently 2-3 on the season and fell to Fontbonne last Friday. Bradley is currently 3-6 overall. Eureka will also face Spalding in a SLIAC game on Saturday before taking the next 11 days off for winter break.
The Fontbonne women's basketball team is looking to snap a three game losing streak but will have to do so against nationally ranked opponent Washington University-St. Louis. The Griffins are set to face the #5 Bears on Thursday. Fontbonne is currently 3-4 overall.
The Greenville women's basketball team has found their stride,
winning three straight games. After opening the year with just one
win in their first four games the Panthers have topped Westminster,
Robert Morris-Springfield, and St. Mary of the Woods to push their
overall record to 4-3. They will host Culver-Stockton on Thursday
in their final tune-up before jumping into conference play at the
start of the New Year.
The Iowa Wesleyan women's basketball team will head into break on a five game winning streak. The SLIAC preseason favorites defeated Viterbo 56-52 on Tuesday night and are 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the SLIAC. The Tigers will return to action December 29-30 when they play in the Wartburg Tournament in Waverly, Iowa.
The MacMurray women's basketball team closed out the first-half of the season with a 55-50 loss to Robert Morris-Springfield on Saturday. The night before however the Highlanders picked up a thrilling101-99 overtime win over St. Mary of the Woods. Megan Duisen led all scorers with 28 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Principia men's basketball team fell to Greenville last
Saturday in their final game before taking nearly a month off for
winter break. Justin Ball led Principia in the game against
Greenville with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Principia does not
return to action again until Jan. 3 when they host Spalding in a
The Spalding men's basketball team hosts Eureka this Saturday in their final conference game before winter break. The Golden Eagles have won two straight games and are currently 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the SLIAC. They are tied for fourth place in the SLIAC along with Saturday's foe Eureka.
Webster senior guard Ahmad Smith was named the SLIAC Men's
Basketball Player of the Week after nearly helping the Gorloks
upset #3 ranked Washington University-St. Louis. Smith scored 33
points, the most for a SLIAC player this season, in his team's
The Westminster women's basketball team closed out the final month
of the year on a positive note with an 82-62 win over Blackburn
last Saturday. Andrea Zalis recorded a double-double for
Westminster with 26 points and 10 rebounds. The Blue Jays return to
action on January 3 when they are on the road for a SLIAC game
