AROUND THE SLIAC
Blackburn's Nicole Kelly was named this week's SLIAC Women's
Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Kelly, a freshman from St.
Louis, Mo., earned the honors after a standout performance in her
team's 1-0 loss to first-place Fontbonne. Kelly limited the
Griffins to just one goal while stopping 21 shots.
In their final non-conference tune-up before eight straight SLIAC matches the Red Devils picked up a 3-0 sweep of Robert Morris-Springfield winning 25-22, 25-20, and 25-16. Michaela Balducci led Eureka with 10 kills while Meagan Hanney added 23 assists.
The Fontonne volleyball team snapped their three game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Lincoln Christian. After dropping the first set of the match the Griffins rallied back to win 25-21, 25-20, and 25-16. Kersten McDonough led the way with 25 kills while Lynsey Wehrenberg totaled 22 assists.
The Greenville volleyball team remained undefeated with wins over
Fontbonne and Iowa Wesleyan last weekend. The Panthers swept both
teams but had their eight match winning streak snapped in a 3-2
non-conference loss to Rose-Hulman. The Panthers return to
conference play this weekend with a match against Iowa Wesleyan
before going back out of conference to face
A pair of Tigers rank among the conference leaders in several
volleyball statistical categories. Cierra Howard ranks third in
total digs with 363, averaging 5.85 per set which is good for
second in the SLIAC. Her teammate Lexa Mahr is fourth in the SLIAC
in assists per set with 6.68 per set.
The MacMurray volleyball team is on a roll, winning three
consecutive matches; the second longest active win streak in the
SLIAC. The Highlanders have rolled off wins against Blackburn,
Illinois-Springfield, and Iowa Wesleyan to improve their overall
record to 9-9 this season.
A pair of Panthers earned SLIAC Player of the Week honors this
week. Summer Switzer was named Volleyball Defensive Player of the
Week after averaging 5.67 digs per set including a career high 39
digs against Webster. Sarah Litwiller picked up Women's Cross
Country weekly honors after a 7th place finish at the Wisconsin
Spalding picked up a 3-0 win over Franklin and have now won two of their last three matches. The Golden Eagles took the match 25-22, 25-23, and 25-18. Elisa Burkman led Spalding with 11 kills while Jessica Diehl added nine kills. Katelyn Cosgrove finished with 18 assists with Casey Wilkerson recording 22 digs.
The Webster volleyball team won their fifth straight conference
match with a 3-0 sweep of Blackburn. The Gorloks won 25-23, 25-15,
and 25-14. Three Gorloks reached double digits in kills with Sam
Kersting leading the way with 14 kills. Allie and Katie O'Toole
combined for 30 assists as the Gorloks hit .363 as a team in the
Blue Jays Kayla Reeg and Daryl Doran earned SLIAC Player of the
Week honors this week. Reeg was Volleyball Offensive Player of the
Week after averaging 10.85 assists per set in helping her team
sweep three of four contests on the week. Doran was Men's Soccer
Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the Blue Jay defense
that blanked Greenville in a 1-0 conference win.
