SLIAC Players of the Week - Oct. 13

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week winners features several repeat winners and include Thomas Crown, Jacob Jones, Nicole Kelly, Sam Kersting, Sarah Litwiller, Nate Richards, Jamie Schollenbruch, and Dee Dee Sliter.

 

MEN'S SOCCER (OFFENSIVE)
JACOB JONES, GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Jones, a sophomore from Litchfield, Ill., came up big in both of his team's games last week as he helped the Panthers get back into the win column. Jones scored the game tying goal with just eight-seconds left in regulation, sparking his team to an eventual 2-1 overtime win over Blackburn. Jones kept his magic alive when he netted his team's only goal in a double overtime win over Principia.

 

 

MEN'S SOCCER (DEFENSIVE)
THOMAS CROWN, GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Crown, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., allowed just one goal in a pair of conference matches last week to pick up weekly honors. Crown made three saves in an overtime win over Blackburn and followed with a shutout win over Principia. Crown made six saves in the shutout win as he picked up his second shutout of the season. On the week Crown finished with a .900 save percentage and a 0.45 goals-against average. This marks the fourth time this season Crown has won Defensive Player of the Week honors.

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER (OFFENSIVE)
DEE DEE SLITER, SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Sliter, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., had a career day in her team's win over MacMurray. Sliter recorded eight total points, recording five goals and one assist in the contest. Sliter set a new career high in both goals and total points in the contest. On the season she leads the SLIAC in total points and goals and ranks second in assists. This marks the second time this season Sliter has won the Offensive Player of the Week award.

 

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER (DEFENSIVE)
NICOLE KELLY, BLACKBURN COLLEGE

Kelly, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., picked up her second consecutive SLIAC Player of the Week honors as she once again stood out in net for the Beavers. Kelly recorded 27 saves in a 1-1 tie against Greenville. It marked Kelly's second consecutive 20-plus save performance. She currently ranks first in the conference in both saves and save percentage and is third in goals-against average.

 

 

VOLLEYBALL (OFFENSIVE)
SAM KERSTING, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Kersting, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., led the Gorlok attack in picking up a pair of conference wins last week. Kersting finished the week with an impressive .595 attack percentage, averaging 4.0 kills per set in her two outings. Kersting started the week with 14 kills on just 19 attacks, with no errors, in her team's sweep of Blackburn. She followed with 10 kills in a win over Eureka, adding seven total blocks. On the week Kersting finished with 24 kills on 37 attacks and averaged 5.3 points per set in two conference matches.

VOLLEYBALL (DEFENSIVE)
JAMIE SCHOLLENBRUCH, GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Schollenbruch, a junior, led the Panther defense in three matches this past week. She started the week with a 44 dig effort against Rose-Hulman. In that match Schollenbruch recorded her 44 digs in five sets while adding three assists. She followed with 15 digs in a conference meeting against Iowa Wesleyan and 13 more digs against Benedictine-Springfield. On the week Schollenbruch averaged 6.55 digs per set and finished with 72 digs in three matches. This marks the second time this year Schollenbruch has won the Defensive Volleyball Player of the Week award.

 

 

 

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
NATE RICHARDS, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Richards, a sophomore from Elsah, Ill., picked up a second place finish in the Cowbell Classic, his program's home meet. Richards finished the 8K race in a time of 26:27, setting a new personal record.

 

 

 

 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
SARAH LITWILLER, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Litwiller, a senior from Concord, Calif., placed second in her program's home meet. Running on a muddy and wet course Litwiller finished the 6K race in a time of 23:18, placing second out of 37 runners. This marks the third time this season Litwiller has won Player of the Week honors.

 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Rachael Ainsworth, Webster University (Women's Soccer) Ainsworth recorded her third consecutive shutout over a conference opponent, making three saves against Spalding.
  • Elisa Burkman, Spalding University (Volleyball) Burkman made a difference all over the court in helping her team go 5-0 on the week; averaging 2.7 kills and 2.9 digs per set with 10 total blocks.
  • Jessica Diehl, Spalding University (Volleyball) Diehl helped the Golden Eagles go 5-0 on the week, including three conference wins; averaging 2.9 kills while hitting .491 and finishing with 21 total blocks.
  • Muhle Dlamini, Westminster College (Men's Soccer) Dlamini helped his team hold Eureka without a shot last week while also notching two goals in the contest.
  • Jason Hickson, Webster University (Men's Cross Country) Hickson helped the Gorloks claim their program's first ever team victory at a meet, finishing 3rd in his race at the Cowbell Classic.
  • Tess Rountree, Principia College (Volleyball) Rountree once again reached the 30 kill plateau, the seventh time this season she has achieved that feat, with 30 kills against Lincoln Christian. She added 30 digs in the win as well.
  • Mitchell Schneider, Iowa Wesleyan College (Men's Soccer) Schneider recorded 23 saves in his team's loss to Fontbonne last week. 
  • Dustin Seibolt, Westminster College (Men's Soccer) Seibolt tied the Blue Jays program record for goals in a game with a four goal performance against Eureka.
