SLIAC Players of the Week - April 20

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week put up stellar numbers when it counts, as the regular season winds down. This week's winners include: Tyler Branneky, Kaylyn DeCock, Daniel Drake, Marissa Harris, Meghan Illig, C.J. Lee, Bret Robertson, Haile Wilson, and Lyssa Winslow.

 

DIAMOND SPORTS/SLIAC BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Branneky, Westminster College

Branneky, a junior infielder from St. Louis, Mo., picked up his second straight weekly honor and third this season after helping his team pick up a pair of conference series sweeps last week. Branneky had three multi-hit games and hits in all five contests, finishing with a .556 batting average and three home runs with 14 runs batted in. He was 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in game one of a double header against Blackburn. Branneky then went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a home run in game one of a three game series against Iowa Wesleyan. On the week Branneky finished with seven runs scored and 10 hits in five games, recording a .692 on base percentage.

DIAMOND SPORTS/SLIAC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
C.J. Lee, Webster University

Lee, a sophomore from Aurora, Ill., was outstanding in his only start of the week. Lee went a full seven innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits while striking out 12 and walking one. Lee is now 3-1 overall with a 3.05 earned-run average this season.

 

 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Kaylyn DeCock, Webster University

DeCock, a junior catcher from Bettendorf, Iowa, helped her team to three wins on the week. She batted .667 in four games with one home run and seven runs batted in. DeCock went 3-for-6 in a double header against Greenville. She exploded for four hits in game one of a double header against Eureka, driving in two runs and hitting a home run. On the week DeCock was 8-for-12 at the plate with four runs scored and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Marissa Harris, MacMurray College

Harris, a junior from Shannon, Ill., recorded all three of her team's wins last week, one coming in relief. Harris went eight innings in game one of a double header against Westminster, allowing just one earned run while striking out 11. She came back in game two and pitched three innings of relief, allowing no runs and just two hits while striking out four and picking up the win. Harris closed out the week with a seven inning win over Blackburn, allowing one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts. On the week Harris finished with a 0.78 earned-run average and 21 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched with just 10 hits allowed.

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Daniel Drake, Principia College

Drake, a sophmore from Elsah, Ill., went 3-1 on the week as he played in a pair of dual matches. Drake won at #4 singles against Greenville, winning 6-3, 6-2 and then picked up a win at #2 doubles with his partner Jason Wissman. Drake added another win on the week in doubles, again teaming with Wissman, as they faced Missouri Baptist in a non-conference match.

 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Bret Robertson, Westminster College

Robertson, a junior from California, Mo., finished second this weekend in the javelin throw while competing at the Missouri S&T Invitational. Robertson recorded a distance of 51.97 meters with the throw.

 

 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Haile Wilson, Webster University

Wilson, a freshman from Eureka, Mo., had a pair of top three showings at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet. He grabbed first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.00 seconds. Wilson then finished in third in the 200 meter dash, with a time of 22.17 seconds. This marks his second Player of the Week honors this season.

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Lyssa Winslow, Principia College

Winslow, a senior from Londonderry, N.H., picked up her third player of the week honors this season and second in a row. Winslow recorded two first place finishes and a third place showing at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet. She took first in the shot put with a distance of 13.00 meters and in the discus with a distance of 37.61 meters. Winslow capped her weekend with a third place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.51 meters.

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Meghan Illig, Webster University

Illig, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., competed in two events at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet this past weekend, finishing in the top four in both events. Illig placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.48, setting a new school record and just 0.16 seconds behind the winner. She took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.83.

 

Other Notables:

  • Alyson Hahn, Westminster College (Softball) Hahn allowed just one hit in a win over Spalding, going seven innings and striking out five.
  • Deion Hughes, Westminster College (Baseball) Hughes made two apperances this week, recording a win and save. Hughes struck out a total of eight batters in eight innings, walking one and allowing just four hits.
  • Dalton McFarland, Greenville College (Baseball) McFarland hit .583 on the week with four two hit games. 
  • Kyle Uhrich, Webster University (Baseball) Uhrich hit .467 with four home runs on the week, giving him a conference high 13 on the season.
  • Stephanie Watkins, MacMurray College (Softball) Watkins hit .462 on the week in helping her team pick up a pair of conference double header sweeps.
