SLIAC Players of the Week - April 13

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week winners included outstanding performances from Hanna Andersen, Tyler Branneky, Becca Buehler, Kelci Flener, Taylor Hewitt, Kyle Jenkins, Ryan Mosby, Jonah Peoples, Nate Waters, and Lyssa Winslow.

DIAMOND SPORTS/SLIAC BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Branneky, Westminster College

Branneky, a junior infielder from St. Louis, Mo., helped the Blue Jays sweep Fontbonne in a three game series over the weekend. Branneky powered an offense that plated 29 runs in the series, finishing with a 1.333 slugging percentage. Branneky hit .667 with eight hits including two home runs and two doubles while driving in eight. He was 4-for-4 in the series finale, with three RBI and three runs scored. On the week he finished with a .692 on base percentage and six runs scored.

 

DIAMOND SPORTS/SLIAC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ryan Mosby, Spalding University

Mosby, a senior from Louisville, Ky., recorded two wins last week while limiting his opponents to just one earned run over 16 innings. Mosby went nine innings in a showdown against Greenville, holding the Panthers to just two hits while striking out five. He closed out the week with a seven inning, one run performance in a win over Iowa Wesleyan. In that game he limited the Tigers to just four hits while striking out six. He finished the week with a 0.56 earned-run average and 11 strikeouts in 16 innings with just six hits allowed.

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Hewitt, MacMurray College

Hewitt, a junior from Manlius, Ill., hit her way to a .615 average last week in helping the Highlanders pick up three conference wins. Hewitt started the week with two hits and four RBI in her team's only loss on the week. She followed in game two of the double header against Iowa Wesleyan with two more hits and three runs batted in, adding a home run. Hewitt continued with four hits in a double header the next day against Webster including three hits in game one. On the week she went 8-for-13 with nine runs batted in and a 1.077 slugging percentage.

 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kelci Flener, Spalding University

Flener, a junior from Louisville, Ky., went 2-1 with one save in four appearances last week. Flener recorded 10 strikeouts, allowing three earned runs, in a loss to Greenville. She followed with a complete game win against Iowa Wesleyan in the first game of a double header, striking out four. She returned in game two of the double header, going one inning and picking up the save. Flener finished the week with seven innings, allowing one hit with 14 strikeouts against Rose-Hulman. On the week Flener finished with a 1.67 earned run average and 28 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched.

 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nate Waters, Principia College

Waters, a senior from Menlo Park, Calif., won both of his matches last week while playing against Westminster College in a conference dual match. Waters won his singles match 6-0, 6-1 at the #3 spot. He added a win in #1 doubles with his partner Joey Sander by a score of 8-5.

 

 

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hanne Andersen, Principia College

Andersen, a junior from San Francisco, Calif., went a perfect 6-0 on the week with three singles and three doubles wins. She started by blanking her opponents from Westminster and Blackburn in #1 singles play. She followed by beating Webster's #1 singles 6-2, 6-2. In addition Andersen notched three wins at #1 doubles with her partner Kelly Adams.

 

 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Kyle Jenkins, Spalding University

Jenkins, a senior from Louisville, Ky., put together another impressive weekend; this time at the Cumberlands Invite. Jenkins took home two top three finishes and fourth place in a third event. He captured first int he discus with a distance of 48.69 meters and followed with a second place spot in the shot put with a distance of 16.26 meters. He currently ranks third in the nation in discus and sixth in shot put.

 

 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Jonah Peoples, Greenville College

Peoples, a sophomore from Champaign, Ill., was busy on Saturday in the SLU Invite competing in three separate races. Peoples picked up two first place finishes and one third place finish to highlight the day for the Panthers. Peoples grabbed first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.89. He was part of the relay team that won the 4x100 race with a time of 41.95. He closed out the day with a third place finish in the 200 meter race, with a time of 22.06 seconds. His time in the hurdles is tops in the SLIAC while his time in the 200 meters is second in the conference this season.

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Lyssa Winslow, Principia College

Winslow, a senior from Londonderry, N.H., set a personal best in the shot put last weekend at the SLU Invite. Winslow threw a distance of 13.69 meters, a SLIAC best this season, and sixth nationally.

 

 

 

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Becca Buehler, Fontbonne University

Buehler, a sophomore from Imperial, Mo., put together a record setting performance at the SLU Invite. Buehler placed third at the meet in the 400 meter hurdles, with a time of 66.08 seconds. The only runners she finished behind were the D III second place qualifier and a runner from Division II. Buehler's time broke her own school record she set last year by over one second and she currently sits just outside the top 50 in qualifying times for D III.

 

 

Other Notables:

  • Conrad Bollinger, Principia College (Track and Field) Bollinger returned to competition last weekend and took first place in the pole vault with a height of 4.58 meters.
  • Katilyn Kinne, Webster University (Softball) Kinne hit .421 with three multi-hit games last week while driving in 10 runs.
  • Aaron Krummrich, MacMurray College (Baseball) Krummrich broke the school record for doubles last week while hitting .522 with 10 runs batted in.
  • Kayla Payne, Spalding University (Track and Field) Payne set a school record in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 40:49.54 at last weekend's Cumberlands Invitational.
  • Brandon Price, Spalding University (Track and Field) Price took first int he 10,000 meter race at the Cumberlands Inite, setting a school record with a time of 32:35.28.
  • Nate Richards, Principia College (Track and Field) Richards won the 5,000 meter race at the SLU Invite, finishing in a time of 14:52.82.
  • Ryan Strohm, Greenville College (Baseball) Strohm picked up a complete game win over Principia last week, recording 10 strikeouts.
  • Korie Vire, Spalding University (Baseball) Vire hit .500 on the week, helping Spalding pick up six wins, while driving in eight and swiping eight bags.
