2012 Volleyball Players of the Week

OCT 22-28
OFFENSE
Jenny Howard (Webster)
Webster University's Jenny Howard, a sophomore from Florissant, Mo. (Duchesne), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 22-28. This marks the third time this season that she has earned the honor.

Howard, an outside hitter, recorded 59 kills and a .344 attack percentage in six matches played last week. She also added 61 kills, nine blocks and five service aces for the week. Howard had eight and five kills respectively as the Gorloks swept Fontbonne University and Eureka College 3-0 in conference play. She also had a .366 attack percentage combined in the two matches.

Webster also played at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament last week, where they went 4-0. She had 38 kills and a .287 attack percentage for the tournament, with a high of 15 kills in a 3-1 victory versus Central College (Iowa).

OCT 22-28
DEFENSE
Sam Kersting (Webster)
Webster University's Sam Kersting, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Lindbergh), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 22-28.

Kersting, a middle hitter, tallied 29 total blocks last week, while also recording 60 kills and a .433 attack percentage. She had two solo blocks and two block assists in a 3-0 victory versus Fontbonne University and added six block assists in a 3-0 sweep over Eureka College. Kersting had four solo blocks and 16 block assists at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts. Her best outing was two solo blocks and six block assists for a total of eight blocks, along with 12 kills, in a 3-1 win against Central College (Iowa).

OCT 15-21
OFFENSE
Sam Kersting (Webster)
Webster University's Sam Kersting, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Lindbergh), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Kersting, a middle hitter, led the Gorloks to a 3-set sweep over Spalding University with 11 kills, five blocks and a .667 attack percentage. She added 13 kills in 27 attempts, five service aces, four blocks, including three solo blocks, as Webster lost a hard-fought match, 3-2, to Hanover College in non-conference action. Webster has swept 10 straight SLIAC matches and currently sits in second place in the standings at 12-1.

DEFENSE
Sammy Petefish (MacMurray)

MacMurray College's Sammy Petefish, a junior from Ashland, Ill. (Lincoln Land CC), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

Petefish, a libero, recorded 72 digs in two matches played last week for an average of 9.00 digs per set. She tallied 7.50 digs per set with her 30 total digs in MacMurray's 3-1 victory versus Blackburn College. Petefish added 42 digs, averaging 10.50 digs per set, in a 3-1 non-conference loss to Beloit College.

OCT 8-14
OFFENSE
Tricia Gall (Greenville)
Greenville College's Tricia Gall, a senior from Troy, Ill. (Triad), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 8-14. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Gall, a middle blocker, recorded 40 kills and 12 blocks in three conference matches played last week. She had eight kills, six blocks and two service aces in a 3-0 loss to Webster University. Gall then tallied 20 kills and five blocks as Greenville defeated Spalding University 3-1. She finished the week with 12 kills, two service aces and one block in a 3-0 win over Westminster College (Mo.).

OCT 8-14
DEFENSE
Courtney Kincaid (Eureka)
Eureka College's Courtney Kincaid, a senior from Green Valley, Ill. (Midwest Central), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 8-14.

Kincaid, a defensive specialist, totaled 62 digs for the week, including 55 digs in two SLIAC matches over the weekend. She had seven digs in a 3-0 non-conference loss to Lincoln Christian University. Kincaid then recorded 19 and 36 digs respectively as the Red Devils dropped a 3-0 decision to Westminster College (Mo.) and a 3-1 decision to Spalding University.

OFFENSE
Corinne Coon (Greenville)
Greenville College's Corinne Coon, a junior from Warsaw, Ind., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 1-7.

Coon, an opposite side hitter, recorded 22 kills total and had 4.40 kills per set in two matches played last week. She tallied a total of seven kills in a 3-0 victory versus Blackburn College. Coon then recorded 15 kills for an average of 5.00 kills per set and added two digs, two blocks and one service ace in a 3-0 win over Fontbonne University.

DEFENSE
Liz Abraham (Webster)
Webster University's Liz Abraham, a junior from Hermann, Mo. (Northwest), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 1-7. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Abraham, a defensive specialist, had 43 digs in three matches played last week. She led the Gorloks defensively with 11 digs in a 3-0 loss to nationally ranked No. 1 Washington University-St. Louis. She then had 17 digs and one service ace in a 3-1 loss to Millikin University. Abraham finished the week with 15 digs and two service aces in a 3-0 victory versus MacMurray College.

SEP 24-30
OFFENSE
Tricia Gall (Greenville)
Greenville College's Tricia Gall, a senior from Troy, Ill. (Triad), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 24-30.

Gall, a middle blocker, tallied 34 kills in 55 total attempts for a .582 attack percentage in three matches played last week. She also had 10 blocks and five service aces for the week. She had 20 kills (6.67 per set) and four total blocks in a 3-0 win versus Fontbonne University. Gall added another four blocks, nine kills, five service aces and had a .692 attack percentage in a 3-0 victory over MacMurray College. She finished the week with five kills in eight attempts and two blocks in only one set played as Greenville defeated Eureka College 3-0.

SEP 24-30
DEFENSE
Michelle Fandl (Westminster (Mo.))

Westminster College's Michelle Fandl, a senior from High Ridge, Mo. (Northwest), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 24-30.

Fandl, a defensive specialist, recorded 73 digs in five matches played last week, including 5.33 digs per set in conference action. She had 15 digs in a 3-0 loss to Illinois College and 20 digs in a 3-1 loss to William Woods University. Fandl also added six digs as the Blue Jays defeated Central Methodist 3-1 in non-conference action. In SLIAC play, Fandl recorded 14 and 18 digs respectively as Westminster won both of its conference matches last week, 3-0 versus Blackburn College and Fontbonne University.

SEP 17-23

Howard, an outside hitter, recorded 33 kills, 27 digs and a .455 attack percentage as the Gorloks went 3-0 in SLIAC play last week. She had nine kills, three service aces and two digs in only two sets played in a 3-0 win over Blackburn College. She then added nine kills and 13 digs in a 3-0 win versus Fontbonne University. Howard's best outing of the week was a 15 kills, 12 digs and three blocks performance as Webster swept Westminster in three sets.

Liz Abraham (Webster)
Webster University's Liz Abraham, a junior from Hermann, Mo., has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23.

Abraham, a defensive specialist, led the Gorloks defensively as they swept nine straight sets and went 3-0 in SLIAC play last week. She averaged 19 digs per match and 7.12 per set in eight sets played, while also posting nine service aces. Abraham had 14 digs and three service aces in a 3-0 win versus Blackburn College. She had 25 digs and two service aces against Fontbonne University and added 18 digs and four service aces in a 3-0 victory against Westminster College (Mo.).

SEP 10-16
OFFENSE
Jenny Howard (Webster)
Webster University's Jenny Howard, a sophomore from Florissant, Mo. (Duchesne), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 10-16.

Howard, an outside hitter, returned to the court after missing five matches due to injury and was a force in two SLIAC matches. She totaled 22 kills, 19 digs, two blocks and an outstanding .422 attack percentage. Howard had 12 kills, 13 digs and one block assist, while also posting a .478 attack percentage in a 3-0 victory versus Spalding University. She then had 10 kills in 22 total attempts for a .364 attack percentage in a 3-0 loss to Greenville College. Howard also added six digs and one block assist in the loss.

SEP 10-16
DEFENSE
Jordan Berry (Westminster (Mo.))
Westminster College's Jordan Berry, a freshman from Kirkwood, Mo., has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 10-16.

Berry, an outside hitter, recorded 72 digs in two matches played last week. She had 30 digs in a 3-1 loss to Webster University and followed that with a season-high 42 digs in the Blue Jays' 3-1 victory over Iowa Wesleyan University.

SEP 3-9
OFFENSE
Tess Rountree (Principia)
Principia College's Tess Rountree, a sophomore from Paso Robles, Calif., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of August 31-September 2.

Rountree, an outside hitter, recorded 65 kills, 50 digs, 13 blocks and five service aces in five matches played last week. She had 14 kills, 11 digs, one block and one ace in a 3-1 loss to NCAA Division II Maryville University (Mo.). Rountree added 14 kills, 16 digs, two aces and one block in a 3-0 victory versus Aurora University, and she had 13 kills, 10 digs, five blocks and a .444 attack percentage in a 3-1 win over Beloit College. Rountree best outing of the week was a 15 kills, six blocks (5 solo blocks), 10 digs and one service ace performance in a 3-1 loss to North Central College (Ill.). She also had nine kills, three digs and one service ace in a 3-0 loss to Roosevelt University.

Olivia Thurmond (Fontbonne)
Fontbonne University's Olivia Thurmond, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (Bishop DuBourg), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 3-9.

Thurmond, a libero, averaged 7.67 digs per set and had six service aces in four matches played last week. She tallied 39 digs and five service aces in a 3-1 win versus Eureka College and added 37 digs and one service ace in a 3-1 victory versus Knox College. Thurmond also had 23 and 16 digs respectively in back-to-back losses to Lincoln Christian University (3-1) and Monmouth College (Ill.) (3-0).

OFFENSE
Sam Kersting (Webster)
Webster University's Sam Kersting, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Lindbergh), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of August 31-September 2.

Kersting, a middle hitter, made her debut for the Gorloks after transferring from Illinois State University. She had 16 kills and five total blocks in two matches last week. She tallied eight kills, two block assists and had a .333 attack percentage in a 3-0 win versus Benedictine University-Springfield. Kersting added eight kills, two block solos and one block assist in a 3-0 loss to Benedictine University (Ill.).

AUG 31-SEP 2
DEFENSE
Jamie Schollenbruch (Greenville)
Greenville College's Jamie Schollenbruch, a freshman from Decatur, Ill. (Lutheran School Association), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of August 31-September 2.

Schollenbruch, a libero, averaged 6.27 digs per set in four matches played last week. She opened the season with 43 digs in a 3-1 victory versus Coe College. Then in Greenville's lone loss of the weekend, a 3-2 loss to Augustana College (Ill.), Schollenbruch tallied 22 digs. She added 28 digs in a 3-1 win over Loras College, and then had only one dig in two sets played as the Panthers defeated Knox College 3-0.
