2011 Volleyball Players of the Week

OCT 24-30
OFFENSE
Nicole Schaeffer (Greenville)
Greenville College's Nicole Schaeffer, a freshman from Carlyle, Ill., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 24-30. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Schaeffer, a 5-9 outside hitter, played near perfect in four matches last week, committing only three hitting errors on 82 attempts and posting a .524 attack percentage. She recorded an .889 attack percentage with eight kills on nine attempts in a 3-0 win (25-10, 25-18, 25-13) versus Blackburn College. She added 11 kills and 19 digs against Illinois College, and Schaeffer had 11 kills, an .846 attack percentage, nine digs, four service aces and three blocks against MacMurray College. Schaeffer finished the week with four kills, seven digs and one block as Greenville defeated Westminster 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-12, 25-7).

OCT 24-30
DEFENSE
Tara Edwards (Principia)
Principia College's Tara Edwards, a senior from Lake Forest Calif. (El Toro), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 24-30. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Edwards, a 5-8 setter, recorded two double-doubles and one triple-double in three matches played last week. She tallied a total of 135 set assists in 12 sets played for an average of 11.25 assists per game. Edwards began the week with 44 set assists, 11 digs and three service aces in a 3-1 win (25-16, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16) versus Westminster College (Mo.). She then recorded 46 set assists and 16 digs as Principia defeated Spalding University, 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-9). Edwards ended the week with a triple-double of 45 set assists, 13 service aces and 10 digs in a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-11, 25-22) over Blackburn College.

OCT 17-23
OFFENSE
Jordan Vehlewald (Webster)
Webster University's Jordan Vehlewald, a freshman from Wildwood, Mo. (Lafayette)., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23.

Vehlewald, a 5-10 outside hitter, returned to the court after sitting out for the past two weeks due to injury. She led the Gorloks with a team-high 12 kills in their 3-1 win (25-14, 25-23, 22-25, 25-13) over Spalding University in the battle for first place in the Conference. She tallied only two errors in 30 total attempts for a .333 attack percentage. Vehlewald also had nine digs and three block assists in the win. In a 3-0 victory (25-5, 25-12, 25-18) versus Blackburn College, Vehlewald added six kills, eight digs and four service aces.

OCT 17-23
DEFENSE
Liz Abraham (Webster)
Webster University's Liz Abraham, a sophomore from Hermann, Mo., has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23.

Abraham, a 5-7 outside hitter, stood out defensively in the Gorloks 3-1 win (25-14, 25-23, 22-25, 25-13) over Spalding University in the battle for first place in the Conference. She posted a career-best 35 digs, which also marked a season high for Webster. Abraham was also perfect in service receptions, with 27 chances and no errors. In addition, Abraham added three service aces in limited time on the court in Webster's 3-0 victory (25-5, 25-12, 25-18) versus Blackburn College.

OCT 10-16
OFFENSE
Tess Rountree (Principia)
Principia College's Tess Rountree, a freshman from Paso Robles, Calif., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 10-16. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Rountree, a 6-0 outside hitter, averaged 4.87 kills per set in four matches played last week. She also posted a .366 attack percentage, eight service aces, 53 digs and nine block solo for the week. Rountree had 19 kills and only three errors in 40 total attempts for a .400 attack percentage in Principia's 3-1 win (25-23, 22-25, 25-13, 25-23) over Eureka College. She also added 13 digs for her first of three double-doubles on the week.

Rountree recorded a .421 attack percentage with 17 kills and one error in a 3-0 victory versus Midway College. She added 11 kills, 16 digs and four service aces in a 3-0 win against St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Rountree finished the week with a high of 26 kills and 18 digs in a 3-2 loss (28-26, 19-25, 19-25, 25-21, 8-15) to Oakland City University, and she earned All-Tournament Team honors at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Invitational.

OCT 3-9
OFFENSE
Alex Marquardt (Spalding)
Spalding University's Alex Marquardt, a senior from Louisville, Ky. (Atherton), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 3-9.

Marquardt, a 6-0 middle hitter, recorded 56 kills and 12 blocks in four matches played last week. She set a school record for kills in a single match with 23 in a 3-1 win (25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22) versus Webster University. She also posted a .381 attack percentage in that match and posted two block solos and two block assists.

Marquardt recorded 15 kills and three block assists in a 3-2 loss (25-22, 21-25, 27-25, 26-28, 13-15) to Greenville College. She had six kills and four block solos earlier in the week as the Golden Eagles lost to non-conference opponent Oakland City University 3-1 (18-25, 11-25, 25-20, 25-27), and she added eight kills, one block solo and one block assist in a 3-1 non-conference loss (23-25, 25-23, 24-26, 21-25) to McKendree University.

OCT 3-9
DEFENSE
Kiersten Andersen (Principia)
Principia College's Kiersten Andersen, a junior from Sterling Heights, Mich. (Adlai E. Stevenson), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 3-9. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Andersen, a 5-8 outside hitter, stepped in with an outstanding defensive effort for Principia last week. In six matches played she recorded 111 digs, for an average of 4.83 digs per set. She also finished the week with 81 kills, eight service aces and five blocks.

Andersen recorded three double-doubles last week. She had 27 kills and 18 digs versus Lindenwood-Belleville, while also added five service aces and three blocks. She added 11 kills and 28 digs in a 3-2 loss (11-25, 25-20, 26-24, 11-25, 13-15) against Chapman University. Andersen ended the week with 10 kills, 21 digs, one service ace and one block in a 3-0 loss to University of La Verne. Principia finished 2-4 on the week with victories over MacMurray College (25-19, 25-22, 25-13) and Lindenwood-Belleville (20-25, 25-11, 25-23, 21-25, 15-8).

Corinne Coon (Greenville)

Greenville College's Corinne Coon, a sophomore from Warsaw, Ind. (Warsaw Community), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 26-October 2. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Coon, a 5-10, opposite side hitter, finished with 45 kills, 11 digs and six blocks in three matches played last week. She had a season and career-high in a five-set battle with Webster University. Coon finished with 25 kills for an average of 5.0 kills per set, while also posting a .345 attack percentage, six digs and two block assists. Coon added nine kills in only two sets played against Blackburn College, and she recorded 11 kills, five digs and three blocks versus Eureka College.

Greenville went 2-1 on the week, defeating Blackburn and Eureka in three sets each. The Panthers lost to Webster in five sets, 22-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-23, 13-15.

DEFENSE
Megan Boschert (Westminster (Mo.))

Westminster College's Megan Boschert, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Rosati Kain), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 26-October 2. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Boschert, a 5-5 libero, averaged a little more than seven digs per set in three matches played last week. She had 23 digs and two service aces in a 3-0 win (28-26, 25-23, 25-14) versus Central Methodist. Boschert followed that performance with 24 digs in a 3-1 loss (25-18, 14-25, 19-25, 17-25) to William Woods. Finally, she ended the week with a high of 38 digs and one service ace in a 3-2 conference loss (20-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 12-15) against Spalding University.

SEP 19-25
OFFENSE
Nicole Schaeffer (Greenville)
Greenville College's Nicole Schaeffer, a freshman from Carlyle, Ill., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

Schaeffer, a 5-9 outside hitter, averaged 4.2 kills per set and recorded a total of 36 digs and eight blocks in three matches played last week. She tallied two double-doubles on the week with 18 kills and 14 digs in a 3-1 victory (25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22) in Greenville's first match against Principia College. In the Panthers' second match of the week against Principia, Schaeffer had 12 kills and 16 digs as Greenville won 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 22-25, 25-19). Schaeffer finished the week with 12 kills and six digs in only two sets played in a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-23, 25-13) over Fontbonne University.

SEP 19-25
DEFENSE
Courtney Kincaid (Eureka)
Eureka College's Courtney Kincaid, a junior from Green Valley, Ill. (Midwest Central), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

Kincaid, a 5-6 libero, totaled 93 digs and three service aces in four matches last week for the Red Devils. Kincaid recorded a career-high 24 digs and added two service aces in a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-15, 25-15) against Blackburn College. She then had nine digs and 12 digs respectively as Eureka lost in three sets to both Spalding University (17-25, 11-25, 21-25) and Principia College (23-25, 8-25, 7-25). Kincaid finished the week by topping her career-high set earlier in the week with 48 digs in a 3-1 victory (25-14, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19) versus Fontbonne University. Her 48 digs is also a single-match record for the Red Devils.

SEP 12-18
OFFENSE
Corinne Coon (Greenville)
Greenville College's Corinne Coon, a sophomore from Warsaw, Ind. (Warsaw Community), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 12-18.

Coon, an opposite side hitter, averaged 2.63 kills per set and had a .437 attack percentage in four matches played last week. She also added eight total digs and had 11 blocks.

Coon posted nine kills and no errors on 13 total attempts for a .692 attack percentage in a 3-0 victory (25-11, 25-17, 25-19) against Robert Morris University-Springfield. Her next performance of the week included 10 kills and only one error in 24 total attempts, as Greenville defeated Illinois College 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 26-24, 26-24, 16-14). Coon also added three digs and six total blocks in the win.

In a key conference matchup, Coon came up big with 18 kills and a .429 attack percentage to help lead the Panthers to a 3-2 win (21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 18-25, 16-14) versus Webster University. She finished the week with five kills and three digs as Greenville lost 3-0 (18-25, 20-25, 19-25) to Spalding University.

DEFENSE
Tara Edwards (Principia)
Principia College's Tara Edwards, a senior from Lake Forest, Calif. (El Toro), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 12-18.

Edwards, a setter, recorded 24 digs in three matches last week, while also adding 107 set assists and five service aces. She had 47 set assists, four digs and two service aces in a 3-1 loss (26-24, 21-25, 25-27, 23-25) to Webster University. Edwards then recorded 27 set assists, nine digs, two kills and one service ace in a 3-0 win (25-20, 25-12, 25-7) over MacMurray College. She finished the week with 33 set assists, 11 digs, three kills and two service aces in another 3-0 win (25-18, 27-25, 25-18) against Westminster College (Mo.).

"With a young team of four, first-time collegiate players, Tara [Edwards] has been a great leader in competition," commented Principia head coach Mary Ann Sprague. "She has shown match after match, great scrappy defense, winning most jousts at the net and grabbing 24 digs in the backcourt. Her strong blocking presence has also controlled some tough hitting from opponents."

SEP 6-11
OFFENSE
Jenny Howard (Webster)
Webster University's Jenny Howard, a freshman from Florissant, Mo. (Duchesne), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 6-11.

Howard, a 5-7 outside hitter, averaged 2.93 kills per game in four matches played last week. After starting the week with six kills, 15 digs, one block and one service ace, Howard recorded 10-plus kills in the Gorloks next three matches. She had 12 kills, 13 digs and one block in a 3-2 loss to Benedictine University (Ill.) and 11 kills and 17 digs in a 3-0 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University. Howard finished the weekend with 12 kills and nine digs as Webster defeated Illinois College 3-0, and she was named to the 2011 Illinois Wesleyan Invitational All-Tournament Team.

SEP 6-11
DEFENSE
Kiersten Andersen (Principia)
Principia College's Kiersten Andersen, a junior from Sterling Heights, Mich. (Adlai E. Stevenson), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 6-11.

Andersen, an outside hitter, recorded two double-doubles and had a total of 63 digs in a total of five matches played last week. In Principia's lone win for the week, a 3-1 victory versus Sewanee, Andersen tallied 24 digs, 12 kills, two blocks and one service ace. She also had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs in a 3-0 loss to Rhodes College. Andersen added 13 digs and nine kills against Hendrix College, and she had seven digs a piece versus Maryville University (Mo.) and Millsaps College.

SEP 1-5
OFFENSE
Tess Rountree (Principia)
Principia College's Tess Rountree, a freshman from Paso Robles, Calif., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 1-5.

Rountree, a 6-0 outside hitter, made a stellar collegiate debut as the Panthers went 1-2 on opening weekend. Rountree tallied 20 kills and had only three errors in 46 total attempts for a .370 attack percentage in the first match of the season, a 3-1 loss to the University of Dubuque. She also added five solo blocks and two block assists, along with five digs. She added 11 kills on 41 attempts for a .220 attack percentage in a 3-1 loss to Rockford.

Rountree finished out the weekend with 12 kills and only one error on 26 attempts for a .423 attack percentage as Principia recorded a 3-0 victory versus MacMurray College. She also had two digs, two solo blocks and one block assist in the win.

SEP 1-5
DEFENSE
Megan Boschert (Westminster (Mo.))
Westminster College's Megan Boschert, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Rosati-Kain), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 1-5.

Boschert, a libero, was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Colorado College Tournament. In four matches played she recorded a total of 81 digs. Boschert's best performance of the tournament was 31 kills in a 3-1 loss to Howard Payne University (22-25, 27-25, 16-25, 29-31). She also had 15, 18 and 17 digs respectively against SUNY-New Paltz, Gustavus Adolphus and Colorado College.
