2012 Softball Players of the Week
Apr 23-29
PITCHER
Rena Philpot (Spalding)
Spalding University's Rena Philpot, a senior from
Lanesville, Ind. (Floyd Central), has been named the Softball
Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 23-29. This marks the
second time this season that she has earned the honor.
Philpot went 3-0 on the mound last week with a 1.00 ERA and 28 total strikeouts in 18.0 innings pitched. She started the week with six strikeouts in a 1-0 victory versus Hanover College. In 5.0 innings on the mound, Philpot gave up only two hits and one walk as she recorded the shutout. Philpot allowed five hits and two earned runs, while striking out 13 batters in a 4-3 win over Greenville College. She ended the week with a complete game, 6-1 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.) in which she struck out nine batters and gave up on three hits, one run and one walk in 7.0 innings of action.

Katy Flanagan (Spalding)
Spalding University's Katy Flanagan, a sophomore from
Floyd Knobs, Ind. (Providence, has been named the Softball Hitter
of the Week for the week of April 23-29.
Flanagan tallied six hits, seven RBI, two doubles, one triple and one home run to help lead Spalding to a 5-1 record last week. She went 2-for-3 with one RBI and was 2-of-2 in stolen base attempts in a 9-5 win over Hanover College. She added a home run and three RBI in a 4-3 victory versus Greenville College and then had a double and one RBI in a 13-0 win to complete the double header sweep. Flanagan also went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one double and one triple as the Golden Eagles picked up a 6-1 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.).

PITCHER
Ashley Meagher (Webster)
Webster University's Ashley Meagher, a junior from Dupo,
Ill., has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week
of April 16-22.
Meagher pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters en route to handing Fontbonne University their lone loss in conference play thus far. Meagher scattered 10 hits and allowed only one walk and three earned runs in the 6-4 victory. She then one-hit MacMurray College in a complete game 2-1 victory to improve her record in SLIAC play to 5-2 with a 1.29 ERA. Meagher also added four strikeouts versus MacMurray while allowing no walks and one hit.

HITTER
Tia McIntosh (Spalding)
Spalding University's Tia McIntosh, a senior from
LaGrange, Ky. (Oldham County), has been named the Softball Hitter
of the Week for the week of April 16-22.
McIntosh hit .666 over the weekend to lead the Golden Eagles to a sweep over Eureka College. She went 3-for-3 with one run scored in a 9-0 victory in game one. McIntosh added a RBI double in game two as Spalding won 2-1.

Sarah Jesse (Eureka)
Eureka College's Sarah Jesse, a junior from Mackinaw, Ill.
(Bloomington), has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for
the week of April 9-15.
Jesse needed only 89 pitches to throw her 32nd career complete game in Eureka's 5-1 victory over MacMurray College. She scattered three hits and allowed only one earned run while striking out three and walking none.

Kelli Dunne (Eureka)
Eureka College's Kelli Dunne, a junior from Peoria, Ill.
(Richwoods), has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the
week of April 9-15.
Dunne, a second baseman, finished the week with a .857 batting average, one double, one triple, two runs scored and three RBIs in two games played. She went 2-for-3 with one RBI at the plate and fielded 100 percent with two putouts and five assists as the Red Devils defeated MacMurray College 5-1 in game one of a double header. Dunne put forth a 4-for-4 effort in game two, tallying one double, one triple and two RBI to help lead Eureka to an 11-3 victory in six innings.

Jessica Laubecher (Greenville)
Greenville College's Jessica Laubecher, a freshman from
McCordsville, Ind. (Mount Vernon Twp.), has been named the Softball
Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 2-8.
Laubecher retired 21 straight batters in game one of the Panthers double header versus Eureka College to record her first career perfect game. She struck out four batters and Greenville won 6-0. Laubecher came right back and threw a complete game in game two, giving up only one run on six hits and recording three strikeouts. Against Webster University she had a perfect game through five innings, and finished with six strikeouts and the 2-1 victory.

Taylor Gibbs (Webster)
Webster University's Taylor Gibbs, a freshman from Alton,
Ill., has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week
of April 2-8. This is the second consecutive week that she has
earned the honor.
Gibbs, a first baseman, had seven hits, seven RBI and two home runs in four games played last week. Her best outing was a two-hit, two-run and four RBI performance in a 14-5 win over Blackburn College. Gibbs also had a solo home run to score the lone run in Webster's 2-1 loss to Greenville. She then added one double and one RBI as the Gorloks defeated Greenville 6-0 to split the double header.

Trisha Thompson (Webster)
Webster University's Trisha Thompson, a sophomore from
Glendale, Ariz. (Xavier Prep), has been named the Softball Pitcher
of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.
Thompson threw a complete game no-hitter, the first for Webster since 2007, with a 1-0 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.). In 7.0 complete innings of work she recorded six strikeouts and allowed only two walks. Thompson also posted a 11-2 win over Eureka College, with six strikeouts, five hits and one earned run in 6.0 innings on the mound.

Taylor Gibbs (Webster)
Webster University's Taylor Gibbs, a freshman from Alton,
Ill., has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week
of March 26-April 1.
Gibbs helped the Gorloks to a 1-0 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.) by driving in the lone run with a single in the fifth inning. In Webster's 11-2 win at Eureka College Gibbs was in the middle of all three Gorlok scoring rallies. She homered in a three-run third, doubled in a six-run fourth and doubled in a two-run sixth. Gibbs also had two hits and one RBI in the Gorloks 5-1 win over Eureka.

Kelli Dunne (Eureka)
Eureka College's Kelli Dunne, a junior from Peoria, Ill.
(Richwoods), has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the
week of March 19-25.
Dunne finished the week with a .579 batting average, two home runs and nine RBI in six starts at second base. She had four multi-hit games during the week, including a 4-for-4 effort with three doubles and two RBI against Monmouth College (Ill.). Dunne also drove in a career-high four runs against Westminster College (Mo.) last week.

Rena Philpot (Spalding)
Spalding University's Rena Philpot, a senior from
Lanesville, Ind. (Floyd Central), has been named the Softball
Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 12-18.
Philpot recorded two complete game victories last week, including one shutout, as the Golden Eagles went 3-1 for the week. She posted five strikeouts and gave up two hits and five walks in a 1-0 shutout versus Wilmington College (Ohio). Philpot then had seven strikeouts, five hits, zero walks and no earned runs in a 2-1 win over Franklin College (Ind.).

Sara Hamilton (Eureka)
Eureka College's Sara Hamilton, a senior from Washington,
Ill., has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week
of March 12-18.
Hamilton, an outfielder, hit .560 (14-for-25) at the plate with two home runs and 14 RBI in eight games played last week at the National Collegiate Sports Invitational in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. Additionally, she coaxed four walks for a .621 on-base percentage and struck out only twice in 29 plate appearances. She had a pair of four-hit games on the tripe, including a 4-for-4 effort with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored and seven RBI in the Red Devils 14-3 victory over Suffolk (Mass.).
Hamilton also went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one home run in an 8-4 loss to Lycoming College. She added four hits, four RBI, four runs scored, one double and one triple in a 15-6 win versus Philadelphia Biblical.

PITCHER
Mary Chamberlain (Blackburn)
Blackburn College's Mary Chamberlain, a freshman from
Johnsburg, Ill., has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week
for the week of March 5-11.
Chamberlain made three appearances last week and recorded one complete game victory. She pitched 1.3 innings of relief and recorded one strikeout in an 11-3 loss to Mt. Aloysius. She also threw 1.0 inning of relief and had one strikeout in an 8-3 loss to Mary Washington.
Chamberlain's best outing resulted in a complete game, 3-2 victory against Gwynedd Mercy. In 7.0 innings on the mound, she struck out three batters, gave up no earned runs and allowed only one walk. Blackburn finished 4-4 on the week with two wins against Gwynedd Mercy and one win against both Chatham University and LaRoche College.

Brianna Markel (Blackburn)
Blackburn College's Brianna Markel, a junior from East
Alton, Ill. (Roxana), has been named the Softball Hitter of the
Week for the week of March 5-11.
Markel, a centerfielder and leadoff hitter, had a great start to the season and is leading the Beavers in batting, hits, doubles, triples, home runs and stolen bases through their first eight games. She hit .522 at the plate with 12 hits, 10 runs scored, four RBI, three doubles, two home runs and one triple, while also going 9-for-10 in stolen base attempts. Markel also had six, multi-hit games.
Markel went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI in Blackburn's 5-4 win over Chatham University. She then added two hits, four runs, one home run, one RBI and two stolen bases in a 16-11 victory versus Gwynedd Mercy. Markel had two hits, two runs, one double and one RBI in an 11-0 win against LaRoche College. She also tallied two hits, including a homerun and two stolen bases in a 3-2 win over Gwynedd Mercy.

PITCHER
Sarah Schneider (Westminster (Mo.))
Westminster College's Sarah Schneider, a sophomore from
O'Fallon, Mo. (St. Dominic), has been named the Softball Pitcher of
the Week for the week of February 27-March 4.
Schneider tallied 14 strikeouts in her first outing of the season. In 7.0 complete innings, she only allowed one hit and gave up two walks.
Westminster went 2-0 on the week sweeping Grinnell College 7-0, 9-1 in a double header.

HITTER
Brya Irvin (Greenville)
Greenville College's Brya Irvin, a senior from Woodlawn,
Ill., has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week
of February 27-March 4.
Irvin, an outfielder, hit .571 at the plate, including a 1.429 slugging percentage, in two games played last week with four hits in seven at-bats. In game one of a double header versus Missouri Baptist University she had one hit. In game two Irvin went 3-for-4 with two homeruns and three RBI.
