2011 Men's Cross Country Runners of the Week
OCT 10-16
Abram Deng (Spalding)
Spalding University's Abram Deng, a junior from
Louisville, Ky. (Central), has been named the Men's Cross Country
Runner of the Week for the week of October 10-16. This marks the
third time this season that he has earned the honor.
Deng set a new school record with his time of 25:30.30 on the 8K course at the Wilmington College Fall Classic. He finished 10th out of 298 total runners, breaking his old record by nearly 30 seconds. Spalding placed 15th out of 26 schools competing.
OCT 3-9
Xavier Ortiz (Greenville)
Greenville College's Xavier Ortiz, a senior from Chicago,
Ill. (Amos Alonzo Stagg), has been named the Men's Cross Country
Runner of the Week for the week of October 3-9.
Ortiz finished 22nd out of 189 runners at the Gibson Family Invitational hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He ran the 8K course, which was rough with high grass and warm temperatures, in a time of 27:30. Ortiz also helped the Panthers to a seventh place finish out of 14 teams competing.

Wylie Mangelsdorf (Principia)
Principia College's Wylie Mangelsdorf, a sophomore from
Palmer, Alaska, has been named the Men's Cross Country Runner of
the Week for the week of September 26-October 2. This marks the
second consecutive week that he has earned the honor.
Mangelsdorf won the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College with a time of 26:03.28. He outlasted teammate Drew Clark, who finished right behind him in second place with a time of 26:14.29. Mangelsdorf placed first out of 115 runners, while helping lead Principia to a second place finish out of 15 teams competing.

Wylie Mangelsdorf (Principia)
Principia College's Wylie Mangelsdorf, a sophomore from
Palmer, Alaska, has been named the Men's Cross Country Runner of
the Week for the week of September 19-25.
Mangelsdorf ran a lifetime personal best of 25:20 and was the second place finisher for the Panthers at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational host by Augustana College (Ill.). He placed 14th out of 403 runners competing, while Principia placed seventh overall out of 33 teams competing and was the top SLIAC team at the race.

Spalding University's Abram Deng, a junior from
Louisville, Ky. (Central), has been named the Men's Cross Country
Runner of the Week for the week of September 12-18. This marks the
second time this season that he has earned the honor.
Deng placed 46th out of 190 total runners at the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University. He posted a time of 26:45.30 on the 8K course and was among a NCAA Division 1 heavy field that included runners from Vanderbilt, Belmont, Alabama, Cincinnati, UT-Chatanooga, Lipscomb and Marshall. Deng was the second NCAA Division III runner to cross the finish line and was the third non-Division I/club team runner.
Spalding placed 17th out of 22 teams competing.
SEP 6-11
Drew Clark (Principia)
Principia College's Drew Clark, a senior from Hopkinton,
Mass., has been named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
for the week of September 6-11.
Clark won the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College, edging Grinnell's Frank Canady by only two seconds. Clark posted a time of 26:25 on the 8K course to finish first out of 135 runners competing. Principia finished fifth out of eight teams competing.

Louisville, Ky. (Central), has been named the Men's Cross Country
Runner of the Week for the week of September 1-5.
Deng finished 3rd out of 75 total runners at the Sodexho Grizzly Cross Country Invitational hosted by Franklin College. In 100 degree heat he ran a time of 27:31.94 on the 8K course, finishing just 48 seconds behind the top runner. Spalding placed fifth out of seven teams competing.
