2012 Men's Soccer Players of the Week

OCT 22-28
OFFENSE
Sean McQuillan (Greenville)
Greenville College's Sean McQuillan, a senior from Glascow, Scotland (St. Thomas Aquinas), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 22-28.

McQuillan had two goals in two games played last week. He scored the lone, game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory versus MacMurray College that was crucial in securing a spot for the Panthers in the SLIAC Tournament. McQuillan also scored one goal as Greenville battled first place Webster University to a 2-2 draw in double overtime.

DEFENSE
Brian Woodward (Webster)
Webster University's Brian Woodward, a sophomore from Eureka, Mo., has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 22-28. This marks the third time this season that he has received the honor.

Woodward, a goalkeeper, posted a 1-0-1 record last week in SLIAC play to help the Gorloks claim the 2012 SLIAC Regular Season Championship outright. He tallied two saves and the shutout in a 2-0 victory over Fontbonne University. The shutout was his sixth of the season. Woodward also had five saves in a 2-2 draw through double overtime against Greenville College.

OFFENSE
Pat McCaffrey (Webster)
Webster University's Pat McCaffrey, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Bishop DuBourg), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

McCaffrey, a forward, recorded his first career hat trick in Webster's 5-1 win over MacMurray College. It was a "pure" hat trick, as McCaffrey scored three straight goals, including the game-winner and first three of the game to put the Gorloks ahead 3-0. Webster defeated MacMurray 5-1 and also had a 1-0 victory versus Principia College.

OCT 15-21
DEFENSE
Dusty Knoll (Greenville)
Greenville College's Dusty Knoll, a sophomore from Arnold, Mo. (Fox), has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

Knoll, a defender, led the Panthers defense to a 2-0 shutout over Westminster College (Mo.). Greenville handed the Blue Jays their second conference loss, while remaining unbeaten themselves in the SLIAC at 3-0-2.

OCT 8-14
OFFENSE
Jacob Appelbaum (Westminster (Mo.))
Westminster College's Jacob Appelbaum, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Univ. of New Haven), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 8-14.

Appelbaum, a midfielder, scored the game-winning goal to lift the Blue Jays to a 1-0 overtime victory versus Webster University last week. The win improved Westminster's conference record to 3-1, and they currently sit in a tie for third place along with the Gorloks.

Josh Sellmeyer (Webster)
Webster University's Josh Sellmeyer, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (Mehlville), has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 8-14.

Sellmeyer, a defender, was a stalwart on defense last week as the Gorloks split two games in SLIAC play. "Sellmeyer was a standout on defense," said Associate Head Coach Mike Siener. "He has been a key to the defense this season and particularly over the last five games, as they have allowed just one goal in that stretch."

OFFENSE
Robert Wright (Greenville)
Greenville College's Robert Wright, a junior from Hazelwood, Mo. (Hazelwood West), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 1-7.

Wright, a midfielder, had three goals and one assist in two games played last week. He scored the lone goal for the Panthers in a 2-1 loss to Benedictine University-Springfield. Wright followed that with two goals and one assist in a 4-0 shutout versus Blackburn College.

DEFENSE
Matt Jones (Principia)
Principia College's Matt Jones, a sophomore from Littleton, Colo. (Principia School), has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 1-7.

Jones, a goalkeeper, posted a 1-1 record in 180:00 minutes played in goal last week. He helped hold Fontbonne to only one goal as his team lost 1-0 to the league leader. Jones then tallied 10 saves in a 3-2 victory over Westminster College (Mo.), with both of Westminster's goals scored on penalty kicks.

OFFENSE
Charlie Chafin (Fontbonne)
Fontbonne University's Charlie Chafin, a senior from Dittmer, Mo. (St. Pius), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 24-30.

Chafin, a midfielder, had two goals and one assist in two games played last week. He started the week with an assist on the game-winning goal as the Griffins defeated Washington University-St. Louis for the first time in program history. Chafin then had two goals, including the game-winner, in Fontbonne's 5-1 SLIAC opening win over Blackburn College.

SEP 24-30
DEFENSE
Logan Spencer (Spalding)
Spalding University's Logan Spencer, a freshman from Henderson, Ky. (Henderson County), has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 24-30.

Spencer, a goalkeeper, tallied 24 saves and allowed only two goals in 210:00 total minutes in goal last week. He had 10 saves in a 3-1 victory versus Bluffton University. Spencer then added 14 saves as the Golden Eagles battled Greenville College to a 1-1 draw through two overtimes in conference action.

SEP 17-23
OFFENSE
Josh Kutzke (Blackburn)
Blackburn College's Josh Kutzke, a sophomore from Freeport, Ill., has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23.

Kutzke, a forward, posted five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points in two games played last week. He had four goals, including the game-winner in a 6-1 victory versus St. Louis Christian College and had a .667 shot-on-goal percentage. Kutzke then added one goal and two assists as Blackburn defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville, 3-2.

SEP 17-23
DEFENSE
Brian Woodward (Webster)
Webster University's Brian Woodward, a sophomore from Eureka, Mo., has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23. This marks the second time this season that he has earned the honor.

Woodward, a goalkeeper, had a stellar game as the Gorloks battled nationally ranked No. 8 Wheaton College (Ill.) to a 1-1 draw through two overtimes. Wheaton had 33 shots and 21 corner kicks in the contest, and Woodward came away with 15 total saves. He also had three saves in a 2-1 loss to William Woods University last week.

Mark Meyer (Eureka)
Eureka College's Mark Meyer, a junior from Dousman, Wis. (Victory Christian), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 10-16.

Meyer, a forward, tallied a hat trick with three goals in Eureka's 5-1 victory versus Lincoln Christian University. It marked only the ninth hat trick in program history, and Meyer also recorded the game-winning goal.

OFFENSE
Clint Carder (Webster)
Webster University's Clint Carder, a senior from DeSoto, Mo., has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 3-9.

Carder, a forward, scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory versus Rhodes College. He scored in the 55th minute off a throw-in from teammate Josh Papes. Webster went 1-1 for the week with the win over Rhodes and a 4-1 loss to Loras College.

Brian Woodward (Webster)
Webster University's Brian Woodward, a sophomore from Eureka, Mo., has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 3-9.

Woodward, a goalkeeper, posted his second shutout in three games played this season as the Gorloks blanked Rhodes College, 2-0. He recorded three saves in the victory. Woodward also had 10 saves in a 4-1 loss to nationally ranked No. 3 Loras College.

OFFENSE
Colin Peters (Spalding)
Spalding University's Colin Peters, a sophomore from Henderson, Ky. (Henderson County), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of August 31-September 2.

Peters, a forward, had an explosive opening weekend for the Golden Eagles, leading Spalding to two wins. In Spalding's 2-1 overtime win versus Knox College, he helped earn free kicks that led to both Spalding goals. Peters then scored a first half hat trick and added a fourth goal and an assist in the second half, as the Golden Eagles defeated Eureka College 10-0.

AUG 31-SEP 2
DEFENSE
Thomas Crown (Greenville)
Greenville College's Thomas Crown, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo. (Lindbergh), has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of August 31-September 2.

Crown, a goalkeeper, recorded two shutouts to help the Panthers open the 2012 season at 2-0. He had one save in a 3-0 win versus Defiance College. Crown then tallied four saves in a 1-0 victory against Alma College.
