MacMurray Names Whitaker as New Athletic Director

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.―Dr. David E. Fitz, MacMurray College Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, announced the appointment of Shelley Whitaker as the new Athletic Director. Whitaker has served as the College’s Head Coach for Volleyball, Sports Information Director, and Head Coach for Softball. She has been the Interim Athletic Director since May 2007.

“Shelley is a tremendous asset to the athletic program. She has stepped up to the challenge of managing all athletic sports for MacMurray College and we are glad to have someone of her talents. Her experience in all aspects of budgeting, game scheduling, academic monitoring, field preparation, facility management, recruiting, and player development made her the clear choice for the position,” said Dr. Fitz.

Originally from Oak Harbor, Ohio, Whitaker earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Rio Grande with a double major in Physical Education and Sports and Exercise Studies with minors in Health and Business Management. She earned her Master’s degree in Education from Muskingum College in 2000. Coach Whitaker is also a certified personal trainer and has worked as a public school teacher in both Ohio and Georgia.
