STANFILL, WESTMINSTER MEN #1 IN NATION STATISTICALLY


FULTON, Mo. - Westminster College junior Ashley Stanfill is #1 in field-goal percentage and the Blue Jay men are #1 in fewest turnovers allowed in the most recent NCAA Division III basketball statistics which have been released this week.

Stanfill, a 5-11 junior forward from Columbia, Missouri (Rock Bridge High School), entered the week hitting a national-high 72.6 percent (53/73) of her field goals. Stanfill scored 32 points in an 84-77 win over Haskell Indian Nations University, which is the 7th highest individual scoring output in Division III this season. Against Haskell, Stanfill made 15-of-18 (83 percent) of her field goals, which was the 15th highest single-game performance. As a team, Westminster is 56th nationally in field goal percentage at 42.8 percent.

The Westminster men remain #1 nationally in fewest turnovers committed at 9.9 a game. The team is also 14th in fewest fouls committed at 14.6 a game. Andrew Buxton, a 6-3 senior guard from Wildwood, Missouri (Lafayette High School), is 28th in free throw shooting nationally, hitting 27-of-30 attempts so far this season. Buxton's 39 points against Rhodes College on November 16 is the 15th highest single-game scoring output this season. In the same game, Buxton made 100 percent (10-of-10) of his free throws, which has been done by 44 other NCAA Division III players this season.
