WEBSTER WOMEN'S SOCCER HAS THREE PLAYERS NAMED ALL-REGION
ST. LOUIS - The Webster University women’s soccer
program had three players earn all-region honors from D3Kicks.com this
past Friday. Freshman midfielder Christy Capkovic (St. Louis, Mo.)
was a second team selection while junior goalkeeper Jessica
Kozeny (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore forward Kelsey McClure
were named to the third team.
Capkovic finished the season tied for the team lead
in assists with 15 and total points 59 and was second in goals scored
with 22. She scored over half of her goals in conference play with 12
and three game winners. Capkovic recorded career-highs in goals (4) and
points (9) in the Gorloks 8-1 win over Greenville on September 22 and
assists (3) twice in a 12-0 rout of MacMurray on September 15 and a 5-0
victory over Dallas on October 20. She finished the season with seven
multi-goal games and two multi-assist games.
In her first full year as the starting goalie
Kozeny finished the season with a 16-5-1 record and had a goals against
average of 0.94 allowing only 21 goals in over 2000 minutes played. She
had nine shutouts which was good for third most in a single season in
Webster history. Kozeny recorded double digit saves in three games this
season including a season-high 13 in a 3-0 loss at Washington University
on September 26. She stopped 95 of the 116 shots she faced for a save
percentage of 82 percent.
After an impressive
freshman campaign with Webster McClure had an even better sophomore
season leading the team in goals (24) and tied Capkovic for the team
lead in points. With her 24 goals she set a new Webster single season
record breaking the old mark of 23 held previously by Niki Martinez.
McClure set the record with a hat trick in a 3-1 victory over Greenville
in the semi-finals of the SLIAC Conference Tournament on November 1. She
had at least one goal in 14 games and had multi-goal games seven times.
McClure recorded a season-high three goals in a 6-0 win over North Park
University on September 3 then matched it in a 10-0 win over Eureka on
September 29 and the above mentioned game against Greenville. She also
recorded season-highs in assists (4) and points (8) in an 8-1 win over
Greenville on September 22.
The Gorloks finished the season with a 16-5-1
record and grabbed a piece of the SLIAC regular season title, won the
SLIAC postseason tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the
seventh time in eight years. |
