WESTMINSTER MEN, PRINCIPIA WOMEN SET FOR NCAA TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
ST. LOUIS-The Westminster College men's tennis and Principia College
women's tennis squads will face first round action in the 2008 NCAA
Division III Tennis Championships this Friday, May 2. Westminster will
take on Grinnell College in the Regional hosted by Washington
University-St. Louis, while Principia will travel to Sewanee, Tenn., to
take on host school Sewanee: University of the South.
The Westminster men captured their third consecutive and eighth overall
St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament
Championship. The Blue Jays, who were the #2 seed in the conference
tournament, defeated #7 Fontbonne University (6-0), #3 Principia (6-2)
and #4 Greenville (9-0) to capture the title.
Westminster was led by their lineup of Myles Yokeley (#1 Singles/#2
Doubles), Andrew Darkow (#2 Singles/#1 Doubles), Chris Claypool (#3
Singles/#1 Doubles), Josh Brown (#4 Singles/#3 Doubles), Parker Stanza
(#5 Singles/#2 Doubles), Josh Ray (#6 Singles) and Joseph Voeller (#3
Doubles).
The Principia women captured their second
consecutive and 15th overall St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SLIAC) Tournament Championship. The Panthers, who were the
#1 seed in the conference tournament, defeated #8 Fontbonne (9-0), #5
Maryville University (5-0) and #2 Greenville (8-1) to capture the title.
Principia was led by their lineup of Cory Sprague (#1 Singles/#1
Doubles), Ashley Ragnow (#2 Singles/#3 Doubles), Juliana Ko (#3
Singles/#1 Doubles), Carey Erwin (#4 Singles/#2 Doubles), KC Gahlon (#5
Singles), Jamie Furbush (#6 Singles/#2 Doubles) and Heather Libbe (#3
