ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR DECEMBER 10-16
ST. LOUIS –
The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced
the Athletes of the Week for the week of December 10-16.
MEN’S
BASKETBALL
Maryville University’s Matt Baker, a sophomore from Longmont,
Colo. (Skyline), has been named the SLIAC Men’s Basketball Player of the
Week for the week of December 10-16.
Baker, a
forward, scored 14 points, grabbed three rebounds and had a career-high
three blocked shots in the Saints’ loss to Coe College (70-64). He shot
6-of-8 from the field, including 1-of-2 from behind the arc in the
contest.
WOMEN’S
BASKETBALL
Eureka College’s Nicole Fisher, a senior from Canton, Ill., has
been named the SLIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week
of December 10-16. It marks Fisher’s second straight Player of the Week
selection.
Fisher, a
forward, scored 28 points and grabbed 29 rebounds in two games last
week, and has recorded a double-double in five of her last six games.
She shot 54.5 percent from the floor (12-of-22) and had four steals and
three assists during the week that saw the Red Devils fall to Monmouth
(Ill.) College (62-43) and Knox College (53-47).
Playing 40
minutes for the fifth consecutive game, Fisher scored seven points, had
11 rebounds, three steals, an assist and a block against Monmouth. She
out-rebounded last year’s Division III leading rebounder, Ashley Yeast,
11-8.
Fisher
registered her fifth double-double in eight outings with a 21 point-18
rebound performance at Knox, recording game-highs in both categories.
It was the fourth time in five contests she had at least 15 rebounds.
She led the Red Devils back from an 11-point halftime deficit with a 15
point-13 rebound second half. |
