SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK OF OCTOBER 15-21
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC)
has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of October 15-21. MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Fontbonne University's Zach Kassman, a freshman from
Cedar Hill, Mo. (Northwest), has
been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week
of October 15-21. Kassman led the Griffins to a
first place finish at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Invitational
last weekend. He placed fifth overall with a time of 17:47. WOMEN'S
CROSS COUNTRY
Fontbonne University's Alex Weatherby, a freshman from
St. Louis, Mo. (Soldan), has
been named the SLIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the
week of October 15-21. Weatherby posted a time of
22:23 to finish in fifth place. Fontbonne placed second out of five
teams competing.
MEN'S SOCCER
Westminster College's Matt Mercer, a senior from St. Louis,
Mo. (Whitfield), has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Player
of the Week for the week of October 15-21. This is the second time this
season Mercer has earned the honor. Mercer, a
forward, finished the week with five goals and two assists as he led the
Blue Jays to a 2-1 record. He recorded one goal and the game-winning
assist in a 3-0 non-conference victory versus Maryville University
(Mo.). He then added three goals and another game-winning assist as
Westminster defeated Greenville College 4-3 to remain in contention for
the SLIAC Tournament. Mercer also scored the Blue Jays lone goal in a
5-1 loss to NAIA Columbia College.
Mercer, who now has 21 goals, seven assists and
49 points this season, broke the Westminster record for goals and points
in a season.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Maryville University's Kendria Boddie, a sophomore from
Edwards, Ill. (Dunlap), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player
of the Week for the week of October 15-21
Boddie, a goalkeeper, recorded three shutouts
last week to help the Saints extend their win streak to six games,
including four consecutive shutouts. She finished with nine saves for
the week, including seven saves on 22 shots faced in a 1-0
non-conference victory versus Webster University.
VOLLEYBALL
Webster University's Erin Grobe, a junior from
House Springs, Mo. (Northwest), has been named the SLIAC Volleyball
Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21.
Grobe, a middle hitter, averaged 3.36 kills per game, 3.27 digs per game
and had 10 total blocks in three matches played last week. She also
recorded two double-doubles for the week, with 11 kills and 13 digs
versus Lincoln Christian College and 14 kills and 14 digs versus
Greenville College.
The Gorloks were 3-0 on the week, including a non-conference win versus
Illinois College in which Grobe had 12 kills, nine digs and a .385
attack percentage. |
