SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 24-30


ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of September 24-30.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Greenville College's Josh Bond, a senior from Erie, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 24-30. This is Bond's second time this season to earn the honor.

Bond paced the Panthers at the Rhodes College Invitational last weekend in Memphis, Tenn. He ran a time of 27:06 on the 8K course to place 14th out of 128 individual competitors. Bond also led Greenville to a seventh place finish out of 15 schools competing.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Fontbonne University's Rachel Hanson, a freshman from Clarksville, Tenn. (Rossview), has been named the SLIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 24-30. This is Hanson's second time this season to earn the honor.

Hanson placed second overall on a hilly, challenging 5K course at the Gary Stoner Invitational hosted by Central Methodist University. She posted a time of 20:09, finishing 19 seconds behind the leader from CMU.

Fontbonne finished third overall behind host Central Methodist and Lincoln University.

MEN'S SOCCER
Fontbonne University's Mike Utley, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Pattonville), has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 24-30.

Utley, a forward, scored three goals and added one assist for a total of seven points last week. He recorded the game-winning goals in a 1-0 victory versus Maryville University (Mo.) and a 5-0 victory versus MacMurray College, that helped his squad remain undefeated in conference play at 4-0.

Utley now leads the Griffins on the season in goals (6) and points (13).

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Principia College's Jennai Taylor, a senior from Claremont, Calif. (Flintridge Prep), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 24-30.

Taylor scored the game-winning goal in a 3-2 Principia victory versus Maryville University (Mo.) on the road. The win kept the Panthers undefeated in conference play at 3-0.

Taylor currently leads Principia in goals (11), assists (6) and points (28).

VOLLEYBALL
Principia College's Rachael Richards, a junior from Bellevue, Idaho, has been named the SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of September 24-30.

Richards, a setter, averaged 9.29 set assists, 1.0 digs an 3.24 digs in 17 games and five matches played last week. She also had seven blocks total for the week.

Richards recorded 38 set assists twice - in a 3-1 loss to No. 18 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a 3-1 loss to Wartburg College. She also added 34 set assists, five service aces and 15 digs as the Panthers defeated University of Wisconsin-River Falls 3-0. Other notable stats for the week include 26 set assists and six service aces versus Westminster College (Mo.) and five kills, five service aces and nine digs versus UW-La Crosse.
