SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 17-23
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC)
has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of September 17-23. MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Principia College's Peter Swank, a senior from
St. Louis, Mo. (Principia Upper), has
been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week
of September 17-23. This is Swank's second time this season to earn the
honor. Swank placed 18th overall with a time of
26:32 at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College
(Ill.). Swank was the top runner from the SLIAC and led the Panthers to
a 24th place finish out of 32 teams competing. WOMEN'S
CROSS COUNTRY
Greenville College's Liz Derstine, a senior from Schwenksville,
Pa. (Christopher Dock Mennonite), has
been named the SLIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the
week of September 17-23. Derstine placed 94th out
of 352 runners at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana
College (Ill.). She was Greenville's second finisher on the 6K course,
posting a time of 25:07, 28 seconds faster than her time last year on
the same course. Greenville placed 16th out of 26
teams competing. MEN'S SOCCER
Greenville College's Frankie Ellis, a sophomore from Cape
Girardeau,
Mo. (Notre Dame), has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Player
of the Week for the week of September 17-23.
Ellis, a midfielder, netted the game-winning
goal to give the Panthers a 2-0 victory versus Webster University in
conference action on the road. He also scored two goals in a 5-2 win
over Blackburn College, bringing his season goal total to five.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Webster University's Christy Capkovic, a freshman from
St. Louis, Mo. (Mehlville), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the
Week for the week of September 17-23.
Capkovic scored three goals, including the
game-winner in a 7-0 Gorlok victory versus Westminster College (Mo.).
She added four more goals, including the game-winner, and two assists in
an 8-1 win versus Greenville College to help Webster remain undefeated
at 8-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Capkovic, who finished the week with seven
goals, two assists and 16 points, currently has 10 goals, nine assists
and 29 points on the season.
VOLLEYBALL
Principia College's Christina Speer, a junior from
Chesterfield, Mo. (Principia Upper), has been named the SLIAC
Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23.
Speer averaged 3.78 kills per game, posted a .515 attack percentage and
recorded zero errors in three matches played last week. She also had 18
blocks, 15 digs and four service aces as the Panthers went 3-0 for the
week.
Speer tallied 12 kills, three blocks and a .545 attack percentage versus
Maryville University (Mo.). She then added 12 kills, 10 blocks, eight
digs and a .480 attack percentage versus Eureka College. Speer ended the
week with 10 kills, five blocks, five digs, four service aces and a .526
attack percentage versus MacMurray College. |
