SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 3-9
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC)
has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of September 3-9. MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Principia College's Peter Swank, a senior from Ballwin, Mo.
(Principia Upper), has
been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week
of September 3-9. Swank placed 19th overall at
the Bradley Open hosted by Bradley University. He ran the course with a
time of 26:47 to help Principia place ninth out of 10 teams competing. WOMEN'S
CROSS COUNTRY
Greenville College's Jennifer Sutton, a sophomore from Springport, Mich.
(Jackson), has
been named the SLIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the
week of September 3-9. Sutton ran a time of 20:33
at the Bradley Open hosted by Bradley University. She placed 19th out of
103 runners competing and led the Panthers to a seventh place finish out
of 12 teams overall. MEN'S SOCCER
Maryville University's Jeff Senior, a junior goalkeeper from
Quincy, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Player
of the Week for the week of September 3-9.
Senior recorded a 2-0 shutout in the Saints
first victory of the season versus Luther College at the Soccer Classic
in Decorah, Iowa. He faced a total of 15 shots versus the Norse and
tallied seven saves to be named to the All-Tournament Team. Maryville
also finished in a three-way tie for the championship after losing their
second game to Augustana College (Ill.) 2-0. WOMEN'S SOCCER
Eureka College's KT Zapushek, a sophomore midfielder/forward from
Metamora, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the
Week for the week of September 3-9.
Zapushek scored the first goal and first hat
trick in Eureka soccer's brief history. She netted the game-winning goal
in the 64th minute versus Rockford College to break a 4-4 tie and give
the Red Devils their first ever win. In two games
played, Zapushek finished with five goals, two assists and 12 points.
VOLLEYBALL
Webster University's Mary Jo Schweitzer, a freshman libero from
Chesterfield, Mo. (Parkway Central), has been named the SLIAC Volleyball
Player of the Week for the week of September 3-9.
Schweitzer played in five matches, recorded 135 digs and had only three
errors in 127 receipts last week. She had 31 digs in the Gorloks 3-0
loss to University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and then added 33 digs in a 3-2
win versus Colorado College. Webster placed
second at the Colorado College Tournament, where Schweitzer was also
named to the All-Tournament Team. |
