SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK OF AUGUST 27-SEPTEMBER 2


ST. LOUIS - Five student-athletes have earned the first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Athlete of the Week honors for the Fall 2007 season.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Greenville College's Josh Bond, a senior from Erie, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of August 27-September 2.

Bond placed 34th out of 124 runners at the Washington University Early Bird Meet held in Forest Park. He marked a time of 27:41.88 to lead the Panthers to an eighth place finish out of 12 teams competing. Bond was also the top runner to finish the 8K course out of all the SLIAC competitors.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Eureka College's Mary Ackerman, a freshman from Morton, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of August 27-September 2.

Ackerman posted a time of 18:20.69 in her first collegiate 4K race. The Red Devils competed at the Elmhurst Early Bird Invitational, where Ackerman placed 117th out of 181 total runners. Eureka did not post a team score.

MEN'S SOCCER
Principia College's Spencer Brown, a freshman from Camarillo, Calif. (Viewpoint School), has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of August 27-September 2.

Brown, a 6-1 forward, scored both game-winning goals for the Panthers as they went 2-0 at the 2007 Rhodes Classic in Memphis, Tenn. Principia defeated Millsaps College 3-1 and host school Rhodes 2-1.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Webster University's Kelsey McClure, a sophomore from Columbia, Mo. (Hickman), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of August 27-September 2.

McClure, a forward and last season's SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, led the Gorloks to a 2-0 record last weekend with four goals and two assists total. She had one goal and two assists in Webster's 3-2 season-opening victory versus Millikin University. McClure then recorded her first hat trick of the season with three goals in a 6-0 victory against North Park University.

VOLLEYBALL
Principia College's Christina Speer, a junior from Chesterfield, Mo. (Principia), has been named the SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of August 27-September 2.

Speer, a 6-2 outside hitter, was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Monmouth (Ill.) Invitational after leading the Panthers to a 2-1 record. In 12 games played she recorded 55 kills and a .303 attack percentage, while also adding 11 block solos, four block assists, 26 digs and six service aces. Speer had 18 kills versus both Monmouth College (Ill.) and Loras College, and she tallied 19 kills, a .371 attack percentage, three service aces, nine digs and five solo blocks versus Hannibal-LaGrange College.
