ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR APRIL 14-20
ST.
LOUIS – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has
announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of April 14-20.
BASEBALL-HITTER
Maryville University's
Adam Boyer, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Oakville),
has been named the SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of
April 14-20.
Boyer, a
left fielder, posted a .560 batting average in six games played last
week. He was 14-for-25 at the plate with seven runs scored, five RBI,
two doubles and his first career home run. Boyer, who moved to the
Saints leadoff spot in their second game of the week, tallied at least
two hits in every game played last week, including two, three-hit
outings. He went 3-for-7 with three runs scored, five RBI and a
three-run home run in a 26-0 shutout versus MacMurray.
BASEBALL-PITCHER
Webster
University's
Wes Hilliard, a senior from Lindale, Texas,
has been named the SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of
April 14-20.
Hilliard
was 2-0 for the week with a 1.29 ERA in 14.0 innings on the mound. He
pitched two complete games against Blackburn and MacMurray, while
recording 15 strikeouts. In a 3-1 victory versus Blackburn, Hilliard
allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out a season-high 10
batters. He also held his opponents to a .160 batting average for the
week.
SOFTBALL-HITTER
Webster
University's
Maria Hibbard, a senior from Rhinelander, Wis. (Three Lakes), has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the
Week for the week of April 14-20.
Hibbard,
an outfielder, went 11-for-19 for a .579 average in six games played
last week. She tallied two RBI, two doubles, one triple and one home run
for the week, while also going 5-of-6 in stolen base attempts.
Hibbard
had at least two hits in every game but one last week, finishing the
week by going 3-for-4 in game two of a double header against Fontbonne.
She also scored at least one run in five out the six games played and
hit her first home run of the year in a 6-2 victory versus Westminster.
SOFTBALL-PITCHER
Webster
University's
Megan Sperry, a sophomore from Clarkston, Mich. (Mott CC), has been named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the
week of April 14-20. It marks the second time this season that Sperry
has earned the honor.
Sperry
posted a 3-0 record last week with victories versus Eureka, Westminster
and Fontbonne. She had a 1.67 ERA in 21.0 innings on the mound and also
recorded 25 strikeouts. Sperry, who started and pitched three complete
games, posted a season-high 13 strikeouts in the Gorloks 2-1 victory
versus Eureka.
MEN’S
TENNIS
Principia College's Dan Batchelor, a junior from Surrey, UK (Ardirgley
College), has been named the SLIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
for the week of April 14-20.
Batchelor went undefeated at 3-0 in both singles and doubles play last
week. He won 6-1, 6-2 versus Concordia (Mo.), 6-0, 6-1 versus Greenville
and 6-2, 6-1 versus Webster at #2 singles, while also posting three
straight victories at #1 doubles with teammate Graham Wightman.
WOMEN’S
TENNIS
Principia College's Ashley Ragnow, a senior from Chesterfield,
Mo. (Principia Upper), has been named the SLIAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
for the week of April 14-20.
Ragnow
went 2-1 last week at both #2 singles and #3 doubles. She posted
victories versus both Maryville and Blackburn to remain undefeated in
conference action. Ragnow's one loss at both singles and doubles came
against nationally ranked No. 14 Washington University-St. Louis.
GOLF
Westminster College's
Taylor Webb, a freshman from Jefferson City, Mo., has been named the SLIAC Golfer of the Week for the week of April
14-20.
Webb
earned individual medalist honors at the Hannibal-LaGrange Spring
Invitational at Norwoods Golf Course Hannibal, Mo. He shot a two-day
score of 160, coming back from six strokes down after the first day of
play, to lead the Blue Jays to a second place finish. Webb shot an 83 on
day one, but finished strong with a 77 on day two. He recorded an eagle
on the 17th hole and a par on 18 to secure medalist honors by one
stroke.
