SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR MARCH 17-23

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of March 17-23.

BASEBALL-HITTER
Fontbonne University’s Josh Burlison, a sophomore from Imperial, Mo. (Windsor), has been named the SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 17-23. 

Burlison, a second baseman, hit .630 (17-for-27) with four doubles, eight runs batted in and 10 runs scored in six games. He also went 5-of-6 in stolen base attempts and struck out only twice.

BASEBALL-PITCHER
Fontbonne University’s David Willey, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo. (Trinity), has been named the SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 17-23.

Willey, a lefty, pitched a complete game shutout in his first conference start versus MacMurray College. He allowed four hits, one walk and struck out eight batters to lead the Griffins to a 5-0 victory. Willey improves to 2-0 on the season with the win.

SOFTBALL-HITTER
Maryville University’s Kristen Bray, a freshman from Ballwin, Mo. (Marquette), has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 17-23.

Bray, a second baseman, hit .667 (4-for-6) with two runs batted in in two games last week.  She also scored three runs and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

She went 2-for-3 with one RBI in both games as the Saints swept Westminster College in a non-conference double header.

SOFTBALL-PITCHER
Eureka College's Abby Segal, a junior from Peoria, Ill. (Limestone), has been named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 17-23.

Segal went 1-0 last week with a complete game shutout versus MacMurray College in the Red Devils home opener. She had a no-hitter going until the bottom of the sixth inning and finished the game with only two hits and three walks. Segal also struck out a season-high eight batters to improve to 2-2 overall.

MEN’S TENNIS
Westminster College’s Parker Stanza, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (Kirkwood), has been named the SLIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 17-23.

Stanza went 3-1 at #3/4 singles and 2-2 at #2 doubles last week. He won at both #4 singles and #2 doubles in the Blue Jays 6-2 victory versus Frostburg State University and in their 6-3 win versus Franklin College. Stanza was also the lone singles winner at the #4 position in Westminster's 7-2 loss to Messiah College.
