SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR MARCH 10-16
ST. LOUIS – The St.
Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the
Athletes of the Week for the week of March 10-16.
BASEBALL-HITTER
Maryville University’s Robert Huckstep, a sophomore from
Fenton, Mo. (Rockwood Summit), has been named the SLIAC Baseball Hitter
of the Week for the week of March 10-16.
Huckstep, a third
baseman, hit .500 (8-for-16) with a double, three runs batted in and two
runs scored in six games. He hit safely in five of six games including
three multi-hit performances.
He went 2-for-3 in
both games of a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln Christian College, driving
in three runs in the nightcap (an 8-2 Saint win). He also went 2-for-3
in a 7-0 loss to Cornell College.
BASEBALL-PITCHER
Webster University’s Brett Mueller, a senior from Manchester,
Mo. (Parkway South), has been named the SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the
Week for the week of March 10-16.
Mueller went 1-0
with a 2.57 earned run average, 10 strikeouts and three walks in two
starts. He allowed four earned runs and 11 hits in 14 innings.
He did not factor in
the decision in the Gorloks 7-6 loss to Wheaton (Mass.), pitching seven
innings and striking out eight batters while surrendering three earned
runs (six total) and walking just one. He left with the game tied at
six. Mueller was the winning pitcher in Webster’s 15-9 win over
Wartburg, allowing one earned run and just three hits while striking out
two batters in seven innings en route to Webster’s first win of the
season.
GOLF
Maryville University’s Nick Profancik, a junior from
Centralia, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Golfer of the Week for the
week of March 10-16.
Profancik tied for
second in the 70-golfer Millikin Spring Opener with a 4-over-par
77-71—148, one stroke behind the Tournament Medalist. Profancik shot
the Tournament’s lone sub-par round with a 71 on the final day, leading
the Saints to a third-place team finish.
SOFTBALL-HITTER
Webster University’s Kelsey Washam, a junior from Lincoln,
Ill., has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for the week
of March 10-16.
Washam, a shortstop,
hit .556 (10-for-18) with five doubles, a home run and nine runs batted
in in six games. She also scored seven runs and walked five times.
Washam finished the week with a .652 on-base percentage and a 1.000
slugging percentage.
She had at least one
hit in each game including a 3-for-3 performance in an 8-6 win over
Calvin in which she hit the game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the
sixth. She also had two-hit games in a 13-8 win over Monmouth (Ill.)
and a 5-2 win over Calvin.
SOFTBALL-PITCHER
Maryville University’s Jaye O’Dell, a sophomore from
O’Fallon, Mo. (Fort Zumwalt West), has been named the SLIAC Softball
Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 10-16, an honor she also
received for the week of March 3-9.
O’Dell made three
relief appearances during the week, posting a 1-0 record with one save.
She surrendered three hits and just one unearned run while striking out
three in five innings.
She was the winning
pitcher in the Saints 13-3 win over the University of Dubuque, allowing
one hit and striking out two in 2.2 innings. O’Dell pitched a total of
2.1 innings in a pair of outings against Luther, allowing one hit and
striking out one in a 5-3 Maryville loss; and earning the save with a
2.0 inning outing in a 4-3 Saint win.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Westminster College’s Dori Craighead, a sophomore from
Fulton, Mo., has been named the SLIAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
for the week of March 10-16.
After falling in two
matches to Missouri Baptist University, Craighead won twice in the Blue
Jays’ 6-3 win over Piedmont. She won 6-4, 6-2 at #1 singles and teamed
with Abby Stuck for a 9-8 (7-5) win at #1 doubles.
MEN’S TENNIS
Westminster College’s Josh Ray, a junior from West Plains,
Mo., has been named the SLIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the
week of March 10-16.
Ray went 4-0 during
the week with two wins at #6 singles and two wins at #3 doubles with
Josh Brown. In singles play, Ray won 6-0, 6-0 in the Blue Jays’ 5-4
loss to Missouri Baptist and won 6-3, 6-4 in the team’s 6-3 loss to
Piedmont. Ray/Brown recorded an 8-5 win against Mo. Bap. and an 8-1 win
over Piedmont. |
