ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR FEBRUARY
25-MARCH 2

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced
the Athletes of the Week for the week of February 25-March 2.
BASEBALL-HITTER
Westminster College's Aaron Miller, a senior from
Marthasville, Mo. (St. Francis Borgia/Mineral Area CC), has been named
the SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of February 25-March
2.
Miller, a catcher, hit .625 in four games last week to lead the Blue
Jays to a 4-0 start on the season. He tallied five hits, seven runs,
five RBI, two doubles, two home runs, nine walks and two hit-by-pitch.
Behind the plate he recorded 20 putouts in three games, with no errors.
Miller led off the season with a solo home run versus Robert Morris
College-Springfield and finished the game with two home runs, as
Westminster recorded the 10-3 win. In Westminster's 10-2 victory versus
Earlham College, Miller drew five walks as the designated hitter.
BASEBALL-PITCHER
Westminster College's Curt Byrd, a sophomore from Vienna,
Mo., has been named the SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week
of February 25-March 2.
Byrd recorded
five strikeouts and no walks as the Blue Jays defeated Earlham College
10-2. He threw six complete innings, allowing one earned run and two
hits.
SOFTBALL-HITTER
Maryville University's Evelyn Drummond, a sophomore
from DeSoto, Mo., has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week
for the week of February 25-March 2.
Drummond, a shortstop, led the Saints at the
plate with a .538 average in four games played last week. She had seven
hits, six runs, three RBI, two triples and one home run as Maryville
posted a 2-2 record at the Centre College March Mayhem Tournament.
Drummond went 3-for-4 with three RBI, three runs
scored, one triple, one walk and two stolen bases in a 12-5 victory
versus Wilmington College (Ohio). She then scored the lone run with a
solo home run in Maryville's 3-1 loss to #6 DePauw University. Drummond
added three hits, two RBI, two runs and one triple in an 8-0 victory
versus Case Western Reserve University.
SOFTBALL-PITCHER
Maryville University's Melinda Flowers, a junior transfer
from Alton, Ill. (Lewis & Clark CC), has been named the SLIAC Softball
Pitcher of the Week for the week of February 25-March 2.
Flowers started on the mound and
threw a complete game shutout in an 8-0 victory versus Case Western
Reserve University. She allowed only two hits, four walks and struck out
five batters to improve to 1-1 on the season. |
