SLIAC ANNOUNCES 2008 HALL OF FAME CLASS


ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Commissioner, Will Wolper, has announced the Hall of Fame Class of 2008. Highlighting this year's class is former Westminster College (Mo.) two-sport standout Jennifer (Whitaker) Schaefer. She is joined by women's soccer players Niki Martinez (Webster University) and Julie (Record) Holser (Principia College), and men's basketball player Chris Parker (Blackburn College).

Schaefer was a four-year letter winner in both volleyball (1996-99) and women's basketball (1996-2000). She was a three-time all-conference performer in basketball, earning First Team honors in both her junior and senior seasons. Schaefer also set three school records in basketball and finished her career in the top five in scoring (4th), rebounding (3rd) and assists (3rd). Schaefer was a four-time All-SLIAC selection in volleyball, including a First Team recipient as a freshman, junior and senior. She earned SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors as a freshman and was the SLIAC Player of the Year as both a junior and senior. Schaefer guided the Blue Jays to conference volleyball titles in 1996, 1998 and 1999, and an NCAA Tournament berth in 1999. Schaefer holds Westminster volleyball records for assists in a season (1,237), career assists (4,384) and career service aces (158).

Martinez was a three-year letter winner on the Gorloks' women's soccer squad from 2000-02. She earned First Team All-SLIAC honors all three years and was the Conference's Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year in 2000. She also earned Player of the Year honors in 2002 and was a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection. Martinez is the all-time leader at Webster in shots, assists, goals and points.

Holser, who had her jersey retired at Principia on October 4, 2003, played for the Panthers from 1992-95. She was a two-time captain and a four-year All-Conference recipient. She was the SLIAC Player of the Year in 1995, and at the completion of her career she was the all-time leading scorer at Principia (31 goals, 32 assists, 98 points). Holser also helped lead the Panthers to four straight regular season conference championships (1992-95) and three consecutive conference tournament championships (1993-95).

Parker was a three-time All-SLIAC selection and helped lead Blackburn to a SLIAC Regular Season Championship and Tournament Championship in 1991-92. As a sophomore he led the Beavers in scoring (15.0 ppg) and shot a team-best 57.5 percent from the floor. In his junior season, he averaged a team-high 15.9 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game, while also shooting 55.4 percent from the floor. Parker continued to improve and as a senior averaged 20.9 points per game, 9.1 rebounds per game, shot 57.8 percent from the floor and was named SLIAC Co-Player of the Year. In addition to his conference recognition, Parker was a Honorable Mention NCAA Division III All-American in 1994-95 and earned National Small College Athletic Association All-America honors in both 1993-94 and 1994-95. Parker finished his career with 1,829 points, which currently ranks third all-time at Blackburn.

There are 18 members currently in the SLIAC Hall of Fame, consisting of 13 former student-athletes and five administrators. After a four-year hiatus from 2003-06, the Hall of Fame was reinstated in 2007. In order to be eligible for consideration a student-athlete must have graduated from his/her institution and played at least two years in a SLIAC championship sport. Student-athletes are not eligible until at least five years after their last date of participation.
