EUREKA RANKED AS TOP FIRST YEAR DIII SOCCER PROGRAM

EUREKA, Ill. — According to information obtained from the NCAA, the Eureka College women's soccer team ranked as the top first-year program as a member of Division III.  The Red Devils' .412 winning percentage (7-10) easily outdistanced six other rookie programs.  Only one other school, Penn St.-Harrisburg (.294), generated a winning percentage over .154.

The Red Devils flourished under Head Coach Randy Crady despite a roster consisting of just two juniors and a single senior.  Local products dotted the EC lineup, including Heather Atkinson (Woodruff), Jamie Brant (Peoria), Samantha Brown (Bloomington), Jessica Bundy (Metamora), Caitlin Ledbetter (East Peoria), Jessica Smith (Olympia) and KT Zapushek (Metamora).  Zapushek, a sophomore midfielder, led the team in goals (11), assists (10) and was named second team all-conference.

Eureka's men's and women's teams practice and play home games on newly constructed soccer fields on campus. They compete in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
