WEBSTER WINS SLIAC ALL-SPORTS TROPHY

ST. LOUIS – For the fourth straight year, and the eighth time since the award’s inception in 1999, Webster University has captured the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) All-Sports Trophy.  The Gorloks amassed 90 points in 11 sports, an average of 8.18 points per sport, topping runner-up Maryville University.

The SLIAC All-Sports Championship Trophy is determined by awarding points based on each schools finish in the Conference’s 12 sports, earning 10 points for a first-place finish, nine points for a second-place finish, etc.  Teams finishing tied split the points for the tied spot and the spot(s) immediately following (two teams finishing tied for third receives 7.5 – eight points for third-place and seven points for fourth-place).

Webster won at least a share of the Conference title in six sports – baseball, men’s basketball, golf softball (shared), women’s soccer (shared), and volleyball.  It also finished third in women’s cross country and women’s tennis.

Maryville earned at least a share of three Conference titles, and totaled 79.5 points in 10 sports.  The Saints won the women’s basketball title outright, shared the women’s soccer title with Webster and Principia College and shared the softball title with Webster.

Five of the SLIAC’s nine members won Conference titles in at least one sport.  Greenville College, which finished third in the SLIAC All-Sports Trophy (7.86 average points), won titles in men’s and women’s cross country.  Principia finished fourth in the All-Sports standings (7.20 average points) behind Conference titles in men’s and women’s soccer and women’s tennis.  Westminster College used the SLIAC’s men’s tennis Championship to finish fifth (6.70 average points) in the All-Sports standings.
