PRINCIPIA CLAIMS MEN'S SOCCER TITLE WITH 1-0 VICTORY
ST. LOUIS - The Principia College men's soccer team captured only the
second conference tournament championship in the program's history with
a 1-0 victory versus No. 3 Fontbonne University in the 2007 St. Louis
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Men's Soccer Tournament
Championship. The Panthers, who swept through conference play at 9-0,
improve to 17-1-1 overall and advance to the NCAA Division III
Tournament with the automatic qualifying bid. The
Panthers scored the lone goal of the game in the 28th minute, as Nate
Mehring found Ricky Seaman for on a through ball from the
midfield. The goal was Seaman's 13th of the season, including his fifth
game-winning goal.
The remainder of the game was a close match-up,
with Principia finishing with only a 9-6 shot advantage. Fontbonne's
Jess Jobe recorded five saves in goal, while the Panthers' Matt
Munhall had three saves.
