SIX MEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS NAMED ALL-SOUTH CENTRAL REGION


ST. LOUIS - Six men's soccer players from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) have been named to the 2007 NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division III All-South Central Region team. Principia College had four players selected, while Westminster College (Mo.) had two players.

Westminster's Matt Mercer was the lone First Team selection from the SLIAC. The senior forward from St. Louis, Mo., led the Blue Jays in goals (23), assists (9) and points (55) this season. He also finished the season ranked third in NCAA Division III in goals per game (1.28) and third in points per game (3.06).

Principia's Dana Byquist, Yaw Danso and Ricky Seaman were all Second Team selections. Byquist, a senior defender from Montclair, N.J., was the SLIAC Co-Player of the Year and helped lead the Panthers to a 17-2-1 record overall and 9-0-0 in conference play. Danso, a sophomore midfielder from Gaborone, Botswana, recorded a team-high eight assists this season and finished with four goals for 16 points total. Seaman, a sophomore forward from Winter Park, Fla., led Principia in scoring with 13 goals, three assists and 29 points.

Earning Third Team All-Region honors were Principia's Matt Munhall and Westminster's Jeff Chacko. Munhall, a senior goalkeeper from Londonderry, N.H., posted a 15-2-1 record in goal for the Panthers. He also finished the season with 70 saves, 10 shutouts and a 0.66 goals against average. Chacko, a freshman midfielder from Fulton, Mo., was the SLIAC Co-Newcomer of the Year. He finished the season with five goals, five assists and 15 points, while leading the Blue Jays to 10-10-0 overall record and a 7-2-0 mark in conference play.

Principia claimed the 2007 SLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. The Panthers, who made their second NCAA Tournament appearance, received a first round bye and were defeated 4-0 by Trinity (Texas).
