WEBSTER CAPTURES MEN'S GOLF TITLE BY ONE STROKE
FINAL
RESULTS
Carlyle, Ill. – The Webster University men's
golf team captured the 2008 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SLIAC) Championship with a final one stroke advantage
over defending champion Maryville University (Mo.) at Governor's Run
Golf Course. The Gorloks shot a 329 in the third and final round to
make up a six shot deficit and claim their third team title in six
years.
Brandon Glen and Juan Bernardo Proano
finished in second and third place respectively to lead Webster to
victory. Glen, after shooting 75-74 in the first two rounds, posted
an 82 on the final 18 for a 231 total. Proano recorded the Gorloks
low round for the day, 79, to finish with a 238. Jason Sullivan also
placed in the top 10 for Webster, with rounds of 81-83-83--247 for a
ninth place finish.
Jake Black (82-82-85--249) and Allen Heeger
(86-85-85--256) rounded out Webster's squad. Black placed in a tie
for 12th, while Heeger place 21st out of 30 golfers competing.
Maryville University's Nick Profancik
claimed the individual title with a low score for the day of 73,
just one-over par. Profancik, who held a one stroke lead heading
into the final round, finished with a 221 total to win his second
consecutive SLIAC Individual Championship by 10 strokes.
Profancik also led Maryville to a second
place finish out of six teams competing. The Saints suffered a
setback in the final round and finished with scores of
315-315-329--965. Sam Carlson was the only other Saints player to
place in the top 10. He shot rounds of 76-80-87--243 to place eighth
overall.
Also placing in the top 10 were Blackburn
College's Chad Harrell (T-4th, 80-81-79--240), Rob Jackson (T-6th,
85-78-79--240) and Matt Miller (T-6th, 79-87-76--242), Westminster
College's Jacob Johnson (T-4th, 80-81-79--240) and Taylor Webb
(T-10th, 85-81-82--248) and Fontbonne University's Josh Wideman
(T-10th, 83-77-88--248).
Webster, with their victory, will advance to
the NCAA Division III Championships to be held Tuesday-Friday, May
13-16, at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga. |
