SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
FOR WEEK OF OCTOBER 5-11
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC)
has announced the athletes of the week for the week of October 5-11.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Principia College's Drew Clark, a sophomore from
Hopkinton, Mass., has been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the
Week for the week of October 5-11.
Clark ran away with the title at
Principia's own Cowbell Classic. He posted a time of 17:09 on the 5K
course to lead the Panthers to a second place finish out of six
teams competing.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Principia College's Casey Powell, a freshman from Colorado
Springs, Colo. (Cheyenne Mountain), has been named the SLIAC Women's Cross Country
Runner of the Week for the week of October 5-11. This marks the
second time this season that she has earned the honor.
Powell was the individual champion at
Principia's own Cowbell Classic. She won the women's 5K race with a
time of 20:46. Powell also led the Panthers to a second place finish
out of six teams competing.
MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSE
Westminster College's Graham Lloyd, a freshman from Columbia,
Mo. (Hickman), has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player
of the Week for the week of October 5-11.
Lloyd, a 5-8 midfielder, had two goals,
including the game-winner, and one assist in the Blue Jays 7-1 victory
versus Eureka College last week. He also recorded the lone goal in a 2-1
loss to Fontbonne University.
MEN'S SOCCER
- DEFENSE
Webster University's Matt Geringer, a senior from
St. Louis, Mo. (Hazelwood Central), has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player
of the Week for the week of October 5-11. This is the second time this
season that he has earned the honor.
Geringer, a 6-6
goalkeeper, recorded 12 saves to lead his squad to a 1-0 shutout over
previously unbeaten and nationally ranked No. 8 Principia College. The
win was his fourth straight and also his third shutout in four games.
WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSE
MacMurray College's Ashley Jenkins, a freshman from
St. Louis, Mo. (Jennings), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer
Offensive Player
of the Week for the week of October 5-11.
Jenkins, a midfielder/forward, had seven
goals and two assists in three games played last week. She recorded a
hat trick with three goals, including the game winning goal, in a 5-1
non-conference win versus Spalding University. Jenkins added two goals
each in a 4-0 shutout versus Lincoln Christian University and a 3-0
shutout versus Finlandia University. She also had the game-winning goal
in each of those games.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
- DEFENSE
MacMurray College's Megan Usherwood, a junior from
Chatham, Ill. (Chatham Glenwood), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player
of the Week for the week of October 5-11.
Usherwood, a 5-11
goalkeeper, allowed only one goal in 270:00 minutes in goal last week.
She also recorded 41 saves and two shutouts in three games played. She
had 18 saves in MacMurray's 5-1 non-conference win over Spalding
University. She added 11 saves in a 4-0 shutout versus Lincoln Christian
University and 12 saves in a 3-0 shutout versus Finlandia University.
"Megan put in
three impressive wins and two shutouts last week," said head coach Jacob
Ramos. "She was dominant in the box and gave us the chance to win all
three of our games."
VOLLEYBALL
Webster University's Abby Williams, a senior from
Florissant, Mo. (Incarnate Word Academy), has been named the SLIAC Volleyball
Player of the Week for the week of October 5-11.
Williams, a 5-8
setter, had 84 set assists, 32 kills, 25 digs, three service aces and
three blocks in five matches last week. Williams had 15 set assists,
nine kills, seven digs and one block solo to help the Gorloks hand
Spalding University their first loss in SLIAC play this season. She
added 19 set assists, three kills and five digs in a 3-1 win over
Greenville College. To wrap up conference play for the week, Williams
tallied 17 set assists and six kills in a 3-0 sweep versus Principia
College.
Williams' best performance for the week was in Webster's 3-1 loss to
Central College (Iowa). She recorded 22 set assists, nine digs, four
kills and two service aces. |
