MARYVILLE MEN'S GOLF MAKES THE CUT; ADVANCES IN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.-The Maryville University men's golf team is in 21st place after round two of the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championships at the PGA Golf Club with its two-day score of 611. The top 23 teams and five individuals not on qualifying teams, advance to compete for the national championship title.

"Our goal from day one has been to qualify for the NCAA tournament and post a 72-hole score," said head coach Glenn Paulus. "We are well on our way to achieving the latter as we have made the cut to advance in this competition."

The University of LaVerne now leads all teams with its score of 575 (292-283). Mitchell Fedorka, also of LaVerne leads all golfers with his two-day score of 138 (67-71).

The Saints recorded a team score of 299 on the day, the seventh-best 18-hole team score in program history. Its 36-hole score of 611 ranks fifth-best all-time.

Senior Nick Profancik (Centralia, Ill.) continued to pace the Maryville competitors as he shot a one-under par, 71 on the day, including a team-best four birdies. He is tied for 14th place with his two-day score of 146.

Classmate Tony Skurat (St. Charles, Mo.) shot another 76 and is tied for 69th among all competitors.

Sophomore Sam Carlson (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) improved by six strokes with his 75 in round two and is tied for 100th.

Junior Tyler Schell (Washington, Mo.) improved by four strokes with his 77 and is tied for 117th.

Junior Cory Scott (Hannibal, Mo.) rounded out the squad as he recorded an 83 and is tied for 154th.

Round three begins in tee time format at 7 a.m. Friday.

"We have two more days on the more difficult course and look to move up the leaderboard," commented Paulus.
