MARYVILLE MEN'S GOLF IN 24TH AFTER DAY ONE OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.-The Maryville University men's golf team is in 24th place in the 36-team field after day one of the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championships at the PGA Golf Club with its team score of 312.

Host-Methodist University is the team leader as it finished nine-under par (279) in round one. Tom Cooper, also of Methodist and Mitchell Fedorka of the University of LaVerne lead all golfers with their scores of 67.

Senior Nick Profancik (Centralia, Ill.) was the top Saints finisher on the day as he finished with a three-over par 75.  He tallied two birdies in the first round and is tied for 52nd.

Classmate Tony Skurat (St. Charles, Mo.) finished one stroke behind Profancik with a 76, but recorded a team-best three birdies. He is tied for 69th place.

Junior Cory Scott (Hannibal, Mo.) is tied for 125th place with an 80, but also recorded a team-best three birdies.

Sophomore Sam Carlson (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) and junior Tyler Schell (Washington, Mo.) are tied for 138th place as they both shot an 81.

The second round of competition begins with tee times Thursday, May 14, starting at 7 a.m.
