GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS FIELD ANNOUNCED
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Men's Golf Committee
announced the teams and individuals that comprise the field at the
2009 Men's Golf National Championships, May 13-16 at the PGA Golf
Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Methodist University will serve as
host.
Maryville was one of 27 schools that earned
an automatic bid for nationals by winning their respective
conference championships. There will be a total of 185 golfers
competing at the championships. Nine teams received at-large bids
and five individuals were chosen whose team did not qualify for the
championships.
"Our goal is to post a 54-hole score this
year," said head coach Glenn Paulus. Cuts are made after the
second round of the championships. In Maryville's last appearance,
at the 2007 NCAA championships, the Saints were cut after the second
round, but Chris Dale continued as an individual and posted a
four-round scored of 315 (79-76-80-80).
Two members, seniors Nick Profancik
(Centralia, Ill.) and Tyler Schell (Washington, Mo.), make
return trips to this event as they were on the 2007 squad. The
Saints will also send senior Tony Skurat (St. Charles, Mo.),
junior Cory Scott (Hannibal, Mo.) and sophomore Sam
Carlson (Lake St. Louis, Mo.).
This marks the third time Maryville will
appear in the NCAA championships in program history.
Live scoring can be found on Golfstat's web
site during the competition.
