MARYVILLE'S BOYER, WESTMINSTER'S SILVER EARN ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS


ST. LOUIS - Maryville University's Adam Boyer and Westminster College's Mike Silver have been named 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Silver, a senior designated hitter/outfielder from Florissant, Mo. (McCluer North), was a First Team selection at designated hitter. He started all 35 games this season for the Blue Jays and finished second on the team in hitting percentage (.361) and led the squad in at-bats (119), hits (43), doubles (11), triples (4), home runs (7) and RBI (33). Silver was a Second Team All-SLIAC selection this season and earned First Team All-Conference honors as a junior. During his four-year career, Silver appeared in 127 games and compiled a career batting average of .329 with 132 hits, 100 runs scored, 121 RBI and 23 home runs. Silver, a Dean's List student and member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, graduated with degrees in accounting and business administration.

Boyer, a junior leftfielder from St. Louis, Mo. (Oakville), was a Second Team Academic All-District selection. He played in 33 games this season and finished ranked second on the team with a .356 batting average. He recorded 42 hits, 29 runs, 17 RBI, 10 doubles, three home runs and two triples, while also going 10-of-10 in stolen base attempts. Boyer is an accounting major.

In order to qualify for Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or above and be a starter or important reserve. As a member of the First Team Academic All-District, Silver's name will now be put on the national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.
