FOUR SOFTBALL PLAYERS NAMED ALL-MIDWEST REGION

ST. LOUIS - Four St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) softball players have been named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Midwest Region Team. Greenville College's Rachel Brewer and MacMurray's Jennifer Ogden were both Second Team selections, while MacMurray's Betsy Beard and Maryville University's Evelyn Drummond both earned Third Team honors.

Brewer, the 2009 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, was named Second Team All-Midwest Region as a first baseman. She was First Team All-SLIAC and led the Panthers with a .398 batting average. She also led the team in hits (43), RBI (39) and home runs (11).

Ogden was named Second Team All-Midwest Region as a designated player. She was second on her squad with a .418 batting average and recorded 41 hits, 19 RBI, six doubles, one triple and three home runs. Ogden was also First Team All-SLIAC as a utility player.

Beard and Drummond were both At-Large selections on the Third Team All-Midwest Region. Beard, who was also First Team All-SLIAC At-Large, led the Highlanders with a .424 batting average and tallied a team-high 50 hits, 28 RBI, 11 doubles, six home runs and three triples.

This marked the third consecutive year that Drummond has received this award. She hit a team second-best .336 at the plate and led the Saints in hits (40), triples (4), RBI (21) and stolen bases (10). Drummond was also a Second Team All-SLIAC selection at shortstop.
